The Flyers have to take a Dman if you ask me. That's there most pressing area and they also don't have that many prospects in that area compared to their forward core. At 11 it's possible that Zadorov could still be there or Nurse.

Agreed, it's strange. They're not going to get it from the NHL, that's for sure, but the whole story makes me wonder if this isn't posturing to boost Nichushkin's draft stock.

Unless someone more plugged in than I would explain why Dynamo apparently paid $10 million for Nichushkin and then tore up his contract before he played a game for them (assuming the Rsport article is accurate).

He'll end up in Tampa, Carolina, or Edmonton IMO.

In one of the articles that was posted here, the reporter asked him about the $10 mill they allegedly paid for him and the $2 mill he was going to get paid there. He basically seems to say those numbers aren't true, and that in Dynamo he would be making less than what an NHL ELC pays.

no, it's not. here is the russian version - no word about $10 million.

maybe it exists a pre-contract/ gentlemans agreement with dynamo or something like that? i know, nhl rules and so on... but really, "they let him go for nothing" is not the only strange thing! how can nichushkin decide what happened if he don't make an nhl roster? it's not his business! nevertheless he said ...but if something across the ocean goes wrong I will immediately go back to them... he seems to be extremely confident in getting the permission.

Flyers will draft BPA no matter who it is. They don't draft for need especially not with first round picks. The only thing that may scare them off if he is on the board is the Russian factor.

Russia is complicated, you know... There are deals "on paper" and there are more important "verbal" deals.

Actually, Tractor supported mainly by the government of Chelyabinsk Region and it's hard for them. Then there was a meeting between Chelyabinsk governor, Dynamo president and (suprisingly) another one President (one who love hockey)...

Gandler told NHL.com that Nichushkin and his other two Russian clients participating in the NHL Scouting Combine this week, left wing Pavel Buchnevich and center Bogdan Yakimov, will train together over the summer at Power Train Sports Institute in Manheim, Pa., under the guidance of Steve Saunders. The institute specializes in preparing college football players for the NFL Combine.

"Valeri's goal is not to just make the team, but to be one of the top players in the NHL in his first year, and that's why he's staying in North America the entire summer and going through a tremendous fitness routine," Gandler said.

Nichuskin would be the 2nd best option if he would fall to #9, with Drouin being my #1 but we'd have to move alot of assets to make Tampa happy.

He and Kovalchuk on the same line would be beastly

He's going to play in the NHL next year. He's a free agent currently.

I agree this kid will be in the NHL next year. I bet on a line with Semin in Carolina after going 5th overall.

Nichushkin says he will play in the NHL or KHL next season, not the AHL.

Nichushkin says he doesn't have a contract in the KHL for next year but makes it clear he has no interest in the AHL. May hurt where he goes

I think that would be best for his development.

Him staying in Russia for a year or two wouldn't be a problem.

The problem is if teams are afraid that he will bolt back to Russia whenever things go poorly for him in the NHL rather than fighting through.

If he is NEVER going to play in the AHL, that can be a problem. It may be that he needs a year to get acclimated to the NA game. Or maybe he just needs more than two years. If, after 2 years, a KHL team is willing to give him $5M, is he still going to come to the NHL for his ELC?

Even if you think this isn't a big risk, can you pass up on another top prospect like Lindholm or Monohan?

His interviews at the combine will be very important, probably more so than for any other player.

Oh, yeah. Verbal deals. That goes over well all the time, I'm sure.

I would love Barkov for Leafs but this kid is my second favourite prospect. To have his size, speed, skill, power game, and pretty good vision and passing.

I think Canes will take him.

Carolina hasn't drafted a Russian since 2001.

Jim Rutherford generally strays from Russians, until last year when he signed Semin, who shares an agent with Nichushkin (Gandler). Rutherford has said they hope to get a player that can play right away and Nichushkin seems ready to make that commitment. I'd guess with his limited English ability, he would enjoy having a fellow Russian in Semin to talk to.

If Nichushkin is still on the board at 5, I think he is a Hurricane.

I'd be careful with him, for all we know, he can be Nikita Filatov part two.

Filatov wanted to play in the NHL badly too, however, he was't willing to make the sacrifices to do it.

Is he the next Filatov?

NHL teams don't like being dictated too even if he is NHL ready, what happens when he hits his 1st slump and has some adversity?

I think his stance on no AHL hurts him, how much who knows.
