We'd do that on our end if we don't have to eat salary (for the late 1st). Even though it's a bit of short-term memory (in it that Leaf fans forget how good Grabo was for us before this half-season), I still think Grabo is a good 2nd line C in this league, only issue he is overpaid by about 1 mil annually. Didn't help that Carlysle was playing him in a shutdown 3rd line C role all season long.

You would have to clarify what deal your proposing however.

I am fine with the pick for Grabovski, and we can take the entire contract without any difficulty.

Especially if it is Schultz and the pick for Grabs.

That isn't what I have seen and I have been following the draft pretty closely for quite a while.

Every year we hear about how great the top 2-3-4-5 prospects are but I have never heard people saying that a draft is 40-50 prospects deep in players that have first round talent.

Nobody is saying that these players are all superstars, most players drafted in the first round are not superstars but most are NHL players.

The experts are saying that there is a big group of players after the top 4 that are fairly even in talent and that a player that one team has at 10 may be 40 on another team's list. The 40 or so players after the big 4 are quality players and there is not a big talent drop from #5-#45, some have said that the drop in talent from 5-45 is less than the talent drop from 4-5.

So while those players taken later in the first round and half way through the second round may not be 1st line star players, we are going to see a lot of 2nd and 3rd liners and 2nd and 3rd pairing D come out of that group.

That is what I have read and heard from people who know a lot more than I do about this stuff. Some people seem to be assuming that because this draft is supposed to be one of the deepest ever that the experts are saying it will be filled with superstars but the only players I have read about that people are saying have superstar potential are the top 4.

not likely.

weird using the 96' draft as an example was missing the high end offensive talent that this one seems to have. i'd say in a worse case scenario it's more like 97 where there's 5 or 6 guys at the top who are pretty damn talented but not generational level talent.

when players like klimchuk and petan are slated for the second round i would be a betting man saying this is a strong draft.

its hard to stop laughing. someone comes to a conclusion on what george mcphee might do based on, "mcphee seems..."???? are you serious? there are no nhl media sources inside mcphee's circle. he is a stone face. he doesnt comment. his actual moves are never in the media before hand and rare are predictions of what he might do even close to happens.

result....the caps #1 is on the market?? good lord

I think McPhee just likes trying to be subversive.
