To me Lepkowski is ahead of Austin. Plus, they could keep Austin in Belleville for another year and not have to sign him until next June.

Austin looked decent as well this year. Hilarious offensive moves from time to time, where he goes coast to coast.

Yeah, Austin reminds me of a very poor man's Andy Sutton - big guy who plays a more physical game but every now and then just unleashes a dangle on someone that makes your eyes pop out.

Buffalo did not sign 2011 5th round pick D Alex Lepkowski from Barrie in the OHL.

I'm not sure what he did to play himself out of a contract and why Jacobs, a player that plays a position that is abundant at the moment, got signed over him. The mysteries of Regier are endless.

Because he wasent good enough to warrent a contract? Pretty explanatory if you ask me.

I can see him getting invited to D camp if he doesn't get drafted again and possibly earn an AHL contact.

Doesn't he re-enter the draft?

EDIT: nvm, I have to learn to read properly, you already answered the question

I agree. It is pretty shocking to me that they gave Jacobs a contract over him. Lepkowski outplayed Jacobs this year and is a useful mean Dman. Jacobs could barely score in the Dub.

The only explanation I've reached is that they brought Jacobs in on that PTO and got see him in Rochester. If so, this may be the first time I've seen a player playing a huge part in a deep playoff run count against him.

I really hope they bring him back on an AHL deal like others have mentioned. Took a look at a few mocks and some had the Sabres taking up to 4 D that were described as "not opposed to playing a physical game." Other than MacKenzie, I can't think of a single D in the system that fits that description. McNabb has turned soft as butter, before someone uses him as an example.

WGR's Mathew Coller has some high praise for Girgensons, comparing him to a Patrice Bergeron. Goes on to say that girgs should be the only untouchable on the Sabres at this point.

Did he really say he wouldn't trade Zemgus for the 1st overall pick? Is that a joke? I'd trade 5 Girgs for 1 MacKinnon.

Insanity....

Not to be snide, but who is Mathew Coller to make these judgments?

I'd trust his assessments over Schopp, Bulldog, or Jeremy White. He had to tell Schopp and Bulldog who Brett Connolly was. If the WGR550 management was smart, they'd give Matt Coller his own show already. He has more collective hockey knowledge than anyone else there.

IMO, if he is requested by name, then yeah I would move him. But if he is just a throw away player with Darcy saying we'll give you...

Then I won't like it. Girgensen has the work ethic and the attitude I want my other young kids trying to one up. Sure, he is young himself, but he comes off very mature professional and development wise. He seems to have the drive to be successful.

He said if they did a re-draft from last year, he would go top 5 and I don't disagree.

He seems to be pretty motivated and positive on Instagram.

Exactly why I want to add players like him and just see what happens.

It's not insane. More teams win with Bergeron types than with offensive dynamos. Obviously the question then becomes can Girgs become that type of player.

The threads for all the new draft picks are updated, so you can index them whenever. I used ISS's measurements since they went as detailed as a quarter-inch.

Yeah, it's time to retire this and set up a new thread.

I'll take a stab at it later today -- after work likely when I can do something without a dozen interruptions every hour.

Even so the smart path would be to trade Grigs for MacKinnon as it is ridiculous value. Having a franchise player in your pocket can free you up to spend picks heavily biased towards prospects with Girgs-type qualities hoping you land a few to build your team with. I say that with Girgs being my favorite prospect. We landed Compher in the 2nd round in this draft and he has as much chance of being that same vague kind of 2nd/3rd line two-way heart & soul 110% 200 foot guy, albeit as unique players. I put Girgs over Compher of course, but the point stands. In this draft you could've targeted guys like Horvat, Hartman, Lazar, Compher in that vein.

Girgensons, again, is my favorite prospect, but this Coller fella is off the deep end with hyperbole.
