Anyone who's saying this team's management does not have a winning attitude needs to get their head checked.
agreed. Eastern Champs 2012. This team (with Torts) only team besides LA to get past the 1st round last two seasons. Its no way the results who got Torts a** canned.

On topic:
I think he will stay after this. And sign a 7 year extention at the same cap hit as of today.

JT's comment: "gutless"

I think the reason why torts got canned, is they might've asked players if they thought he was an effective coach. If a bunch of players don't think the coach is effective, then he's gotta go. Fact is, there has to be a good relationship between the coach and the players for it to work out. Regardless of who's fault it is the relationship sucks, if it sucks it's not going to work, and something has to change.

Lundqvists recent statements about his future in NY was recognized by Sather who then being smart probably contacted Henrik immediately and this all lead to one thing after another and to the firing of Tortorella IMO. Had to happen. THis years performance from beginning to end was pathetic and I put 80% of the blame on Torts

HA! Does that mean Marc Staal gets the other 20% of the blame?

As always, spoken like a true fan..... that every one of the rest of his fellow fans, just can't stand.

What a sad day in this franchise's already gloomy history it will be if Henrik Lundqvist asks out. I don't see it happening, but he has every right to. He has dragged **** teams into the playoffs and never had enough offensive support to give him, one of the best players in franchise history and during his tenure in the league overall, a chance to win.

My hope is that his comments WERE meant to send a message, but not to Sather about Tortorella. Rather, to Dolan about Sather.

There aren't any goalies that have an $8 million dollar cap hit but Lundqvist will get a $10 million cap hit?

Lundqvist won't get a $10 million cap hit. Secondly, IF he gets an $8 million cap hit, I'm sure in a few years you will see goaltenders flirting with that kind of cap hit.

Just a few years ago Rinne was signed at $7 million. So, giving $8 million to whom is widely considered the best goalie in the league shouldn't be that crazy to think about.

Think about it, Price was signed to $6.5 million, and while he is a good goaltender, hasn't accomplished a lot in the league. In fact, when Lundqvist was signed at $6.875 million, Lundqvist was still a more proven starter than Price.

So, you're seeing $6-7 million contracts go out to what are considered top goalies, $1 million more for the "top" seems reasonable to a degree.

If Hank truly cares about winning a Cup most of all, he wouldn't even dream of asking for 10, or even 8 million. If you want the best chance at winning a Cup, you need to leave money on the table. It is a cap world, after all.

Regardless who the new coach is, I believe if they don't make it to the cup finals next season, Lundqvist walks. I just have that gut feeling.

I think it depends how they play. If they continue for the most parting scoring 1 max 2 goals a game, he might walk.

Agreed. I think the only way to entice Hank into re-signing is by winning it all next year, which seems pretty unrealistic with the current roster.

Don't have to win it all just have to win two rounds in under seven games and avoid getting swept, as well as win more games by a differential greater than 1.

I don't know if "winning it all" is completely necessary, but if we end up with an offensive minded coach (Vigneault seems to be put in that category... also funneling comments from the coach position thread that av should have had several Stanley cups, but luongo choking ruined that), I can see us pulling to at least the conference finals again. Our defense crumbled this year, and our no-show offense was as usual... that was our difference maker.

We get that taken care of, and hank again helps us get carried to the conference finals, then we should be good...

And hell, if we get there, we just might win it all...

Now, if we become another contender for 6th-8th place, with no show offense again, then hank will definitely question his future, without a doubt.

So, he should take $2 million?

Remember, this is a business.

Richards could have taken a $2 million contract too. It's a "cap world," can only be used so many times. It applies to some players but not others?

And I know I'm using $2 million as an exaggeration, but it's just to make a point.

Crosby and Malkin both have cap hits of 8.7...both definitely left money on the table.

Meanwhile, guys like Parise and Suter who are a few tiers below, have cap hits of 7.5....obviously took every penny they could get..

One team is a contender, one team will never be.

If Mister Softee want's to go let him go. At the very least trade his ass first. All our long term contracts since the lockout haven't worked out.

He's a known Lundqvist-hater.

Yeah, Hank is "Mr. softee" because he dares to be unhappy with a **** offense that scores 1 GPG. The horror!

You're almost correct on that one. With the exception of Henrik Lundqvist's extension $41.25 million extension in 2008.

Obviously just an opinion, Hank was disappointed with what he considered a step back this season. My scenario was a slight step forward, or huge if you consider the fact we went to seven in what 3 or 4 rounds the last two years lol.

I feel that Hank is a guy that wants to win at any price and if it takes him to take only 2 million dollars to get a chance at the cup. I believe he'd take it. But that's just my gut feeling.

This is unnecessary drama. If he isn't signed by the deadline next year, then people should start being concerned.
