Koivu's line was really clicking last night while our second line couldn't bury any chances. Everyone seems to agree that the problem with our third line is that it is only full of playmakers that won't shoot the puck. The solution? Move Ryder in there with Samsonov and Plekanec. Ryder has a shoot first mentality and can nicely complement the two other guys on the second line who are always looking for a pass. Kovalev would look pretty good on the first line since Higgins and even Koivu seem to have a scorer's mentality of late. It's sort of bizarre for Koivu but I have a feeling that his lack of peripheral vision causes him to shoot more often. Therefore the eye injury might have been the best thing for his career...
Also, it is quite clear that the only reason that Samsonov and Kovalev were put together at camp is that Carbo had no idea what to do with a slow Ribeiro and thought he could compensate for his slowness by putting him with the two fastest and talented players on this team.

So what do you guys think?
Higgins-Koivu-Kovalev
Samsonov-Plekanec-Ryder
I think maybe we should give them more then a 1 game chance, they had there moments lastnight and played well. Why break up our 1st line which is clicking very well to fix a 2nd line that is hardly broken? doesnt make much sense.
So if the first line was clicking why brake it up? You dont brake up a line that works. If anything you split the second and 3rd line apart and try to make something out of that. When the first line starts to slow down than you can touch it and make changes.
the 2nd line played good to...only problem is they didnt win faceoffs. The would have scored at least one goal if they started more plays with posession of the puck.
To many Hab fans, success is a sign that something is wrong and needs to be fixed.Usually with a trade for an unproven talent with loads of potential, and to make it very fair, throw in a draft pick.
Did anyone else notice that Koivu played like a #1 C man last night? By dominating the play and sparking the team? Like he does almost every night and leads the team by example. But he's not a "true" # 1 C man.Not at all.
I said it before and I'll say it again. Koivu's eye injury has made it so he doesn't see opposing players. Ergo, he thinks he has a breakaway every time and scores.
Yeah well, u know, they only scored 4 goals. If they had scored 5 or more, then yeah, maybe we should keep that line together. Split them up. Put Ryder on the 2nd line and Higgins on the fourth

Are you actually suggesting that Koivu is more of a goalscorer than Kovalev?????
This post makes absolutely no sense. Why break up a line with great chemistry because our 2nd line hasn't scored in the only regular season game that they EVER played in together.
I guess you are forgetting about both Plekanec and Kovalev getting in alone on Miller last night. People here are to obssessed with stats when they should really pay more attention to the games themselves.
ya i know, what kind of useless thread is this? Koivu's line had 4 goals yesterday and Kovy's line played real good also, most of the time they played the puck in the off zone, They just didn't finish, Sammy made 3 good passes to Pleck who almost scored twice, Kovy finally has players who are fast enough to get open quick so they could take a pass from him.
The first line of Ryder-Koivu-Higgins has been clicking since the 2nd half of last season so lets lose that chemistry for one player to get better so 3 players can have their game disrupted? Hello???
Best thing is to split Kovalev and Samsonov. Maybe put Perezhogin up there because Perezhogin and Pleks have some experience playing with each other and at Perezhogin's best last year he seemed to be with Kovalev.
Sammy with Bonk and Johnson or even Latendresse would be a nice line. Sammy could be setting those players up while they make room and grind out there.
The 1st line stays, it was creating chances on every shift last night.
I said it before and I'll say it again. Koivu's eye injury has made it so he doesn't see opposing players. Ergo, he thinks he has a breakaway every time and scores.
Good one haha
But yeah like why break a line that is working very well? I mean 8 points
But if someday the line wouldn't work, putting kovalev with higgy koivu would be great too

Plekanec is paired with two veteran wingers with supposedly better than average offensive skills and you blame him for the line's ineffectiveness? Both of his wingers kept giving away/losing the puck every time they had it, no physical play and no backchecking. Please inform Samsonov and Kovalev that the pre-season is over.
You don't break up a line that is working to fix one that isn't, Carbo needs to stick a red-hot poker up Sammy and Kovy's ***.
BTW, Kovy *****ing at Komisarek for the one play he showed up for (Kovy) is petty.

It was a bonehead play by Komisarek to take that pass although he showed good instincts by jumping up into the play at the right time. If that pass gets to Kovalev it was probably game over so I can understand Kovalev's frustration.

Kovalev doesn't show up all game so Komi is supposed to pass on an opportunity when he jumps up into the play? Kovy with the puck is not automatic, if it was we would have won this game.

Komisarek never had an opportunity, he had to extend himself just to reach the puck and when he got it he tried to pass it to Kovalev anyways but by this time it was too late. How you can justify Komisarek reaching for that puck when Kovalev has the one timer all teed up is confusing to say the least.
Anyone who knows Kovalev knows he is a guy you want to shoot the puck when the game is on the line.
Line-up is allright. First line as a great chemistery they'll stay together.... mixing 2nd and 3rd line. Using samsonov instead of johnson will be bad because this line always play against the best line on the other side so you need player with good defensive awareness.
