Inside Hockey Show 10/7

Almost forgot....

The 2006-07 season is underway, and Inside Hockey is here to help you "get inside" the game. Our XM show launched last Saturday, and it got a great response. Thanks so much to all of you for tuning in!

We'll be back on XM again this Saturday from 2-4 PM ET, and of course, we'll also be on 1510 The Zone (Sporting News Radio Boston) from 4-6 PM ET.

We've got a lot of very exciting guests lined up for this week's shows, so without further ado, here are the lineups…

Saturday, 2-4 PM ET (premiere)
Sunday, 10-12 PM ET (repeat)
Home Ice Channel 204

Doug Risebrough (Minnesota Wild GM)

We continue our three-part series on the three most improved non-playoff teams. This week we focus on the Minnesota Wild and we’re happy to welcome on Wild GM Doug Risebrough. Risebrough had a busy summer, and with the signing of puck-moving defenseman Kim Johnsson and the trade acquisition of the dynamic Pavol Demitra up front, he appears to have addressed the team’s greatest weakness: goal scoring. Inside Hockey’s Western Conference insider Bob Zalabak will be on for that interview, and he will give us his take on what Risebrough has to say.

Mike Russo (Minnesota Star Tribune) and Victor Chi (San Jose Mercury News)

To analyze the Wild’s chances and break-down the rest of the Western Conference, we’ll hold a roundtable with the Minneapolis Star Tribune’s Mike Russo and the San Jose Mercury News’ Victor Chi. We’ll get Victor’s and Mike’s picks in the West and we’ll also ask Victor if he thinks the Sharks can finally make it out of the West after beating on the door the last two seasons.

Doug MacLean (Columbus Blue Jackets GM)

We keep our focus out west, and bring on a GM trying to get his young, talented team into the playoffs. Columbus GM Doug MacLean joins us to discuss his team, and why they might finally be able to turn the corner and make the playoffs for the first time. We’ll also get his take on the tumultuous Nikolai Zherdev negotiations this past offseason. Zherdev finally signed last week, but he is he ready to deliver? Despite having other budding stars like Rick Nash and Pascal LeClaire, Columbus will have no chance at the playoffs if Zherdev doesn’t live up to his enormous potential!

“Make The Right Call” w/Paul Stewart

Former NHL referee Paul Stewart joins us for another segment of “Make The Right Call.” This week we’re honored to have a former colleague and friend of Paul’s, Ray Scapinello join us. “Scampy” as he is affectionately known in hockey circles, donned the stripes and NHL emblem for 33 years, officiating 2,500 regular season games, 426 playoff games, and an amazing 20 Stanley Cup Finals. His new book, which he co-wrote with Rob Simpson, Between The Lines: Not-So-Tall Tales From Ray Scampy Scapinello’s Four Decades In The NHL has received great reviews, and we’re looking forward to hearing some of those tales as well as some experiences he shared with Stewie!

“Buzz On Campus” w/Bob Snow (NHL.com's NCAA Expert)

NHL.com college hockey writer Bob Snow joins us for another segment of the “Buzz On Campus.” Bob will be calling in from St. Paul, Minnesota, where he covered the Minnesota-Maine game and the opening of another college hockey season. We’ll preview the WCHA, discuss the first pick overall in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft, Minnesota freshman defenseman Erik Johnson, and also why there is a shorter learning curve in college hockey.

Boston College forward Brian Boyle will also be checking in to discuss his upcoming senior season for the Boston College Eagles, as well as why he decided not to make the leap to the NHL to play for the Los Angeles Kings this season.

“The Golden Years” w/Mike Wyman

Hockey historian Mike Wyman brings us another edition of “The Golden Years.” This week Mike features the greatest trophy in sports, the Stanley Cup.

“The Sin Bin” w/P.J. Stock

Former NHL pugilist and now sports talk-show host P.J. Stock joins us for the first installment of his segment “The Sin-Bin.” Stocker was a fan favorite in every city he played for and now he brings his boisterous personality to the airwaves every Monday-Friday from 10 AM-Noon on Team 990 in his native Montreal. We’re thrilled to have him on board!

Saturday, 4-6 PM ET

Charlie Jacobs (Boston Bruins Executive VP)

The Bruins Executive Vice President joins us to discuss the complete overhaul his organization experienced this past offseason. A new GM, a new coach, a revamped roster, a new scoreboard at the Garden, and most importantly, a new attitude have come to Causeway St. We’ll get Charlie’s take on all of this and on the upcoming Bruins season.

“Make The Right Call” w/Paul Stewart

Former NHL referee Paul Stewart joins us for another segment of “Make The Right Call.” As always, Stewie will analyze the rules and finer points of hockey, give his take on the hottest topics, and usually tell us a tale or two from his days as a ref or player!

“Buzz On Campus” w/Bob Snow

Bob Snow brings us the latest from the world of college hockey and this week he’ll be joined by his son and Director of Hockey Operations for the Minnesota Wild, Chris Snow. Bob and Chris are out in the State of Hockey, Minnesota, and will be calling in from the Excel Center to recap the season opener between Maine and Minnesota. We’ll also talk to Chris about his switch from Red Sox beat writer for the Boston Globe to hockey management with the Wild.

Don Sweeney (Director of Player Development, Boston Bruins)

Former Bruins defenseman and now Director of Player Development for Boston, Don Sweeney calls in to discuss his new job and the Bruins chances at returning to the playoffs.

“The Golden Years” w/Mike Wyman

Hockey historian Mike Wyman brings us another edition of the Golden Years. This week Mike features the Stanley Cup. Following that, we’ll break down the contenders and pretenders and give you our picks on who will hoist Lord Stanley’s Cup next spring!

We'll bring you all this, and much, much more! As always, thanks for listening!

- James Murphy, Kevin Greenstein, and Kevin Stevens
