Not entirely true. KHL is right now still affliated with IIHF, unlike NHL in fact (abides by their EHT schedule, etc).

However Finland has recently signed a transfer agreement for signed players with the NHL (through IIHF and Finnish national federation among other countries). That means that NHL can sign signed players out Finland, after paying a transfer fee during a set window.

The KHL has not signed this transfer agreement. Nor are they likely too. They want to feel on equal footing as the NHL, which is why they have a MOU to respect NHL contracts if the NHL respects theirs. Both parties have abided by this agreement to date (see Lubomir Visnovsky and Nikolai Prohkorkin this season).

Therefore if Belov had a valid KHL contract he would not be able to sign at any time. I do not know the specifics of the Belov situation, but it would appear his contract was terminated/expired and he was a free agent meaning he could sign anywhere (at any time).

There are som rumours in local media that Skellefteå AIK-captain Jimmie Ericsson (older brother of Jonathan Ericssons (Detroit)) has been talking to some NHL-teams. No teams mentioned so I don't know how much it's worth.

Jimmie won the Swedish Championship and was part of team Sedin winning the World Champs.

He is skilled and plays with a lot of intesity and could actually work as a skilled checker in the NHL.

Players from Skellefteå that may go to the NHL:
Bud Holloway
Joacim Eriksson
Jimmie Ericsson
Petter Granberg (will join the Leafs)
Oscar Möller

Maybe even gritty forward from France: Pierre-Édouard Bellemare. Many fans think he should get the chanse but he had problems with injuries this past season.

Both the bolded are property of the LA Kings.

Bud Holloway is a UFA July 5th, however I believe he has re-upped for another season in Skelleftea and from what I have heard the signing window for transfers ends before that. So it is LA (or trade) or nothing it would seem. If King GM Dean Lombardi and Holloway are willing to bury the hatchet (rumours were that the original leave for Europe by Holloway was not well received in LA) he could find himself as the #2 LW in LA next season. I really think he will be a real solid NHLer when he finally comes back.

I do not think Moller will be headed back at this time. There is no real role for him in LA right now. I think LA is content to let him continue to develop in Sweden right now. They hold his rights until he is 27 (will not be eligible for Group VI UFA unlike Holloway), and until he has gotten over his injury issues and put on more strength I do not think he will be a quality NHLer.

Probably Karri Ramo or Reto Berra, but both are property of Calgary. Berra has already signed and Ramo will soon.

Outside of them, it's Finn Antti Raanta or Austrian Bernhard Starkbaum.

I would probably say Raanta is the best goalie free agent.

Its an unanswerable question but all 3 could be considered the best not in North America.

Best not in NHL in my opinion is Konstantin Barulin. Such a talented goalie. But he is happy at home making millions. Never gonna see him in N.A.

Undrafted goalies coming out of SM-Liiga normally don't prove to be as good as their hype. We've seen it time and time again, so I have my doubts. I think Ramo is probably the best, followed by Berra.

This. Niemi, Backstrom etc. backups in good teams, starters in bad teams.

Czechs Alexandr Salak and Jakub Kovar belong among top goalies in Europe. Unfortunately they(and their agents) chose big money in Russia. There was strong interest in Salak before signing with SKA and also Kovar listened to offers from NHL.

Both Backstrom and especially Niemi would be starters on well over half the teams in the league.

I assume the Flyers no longer have Kovar's rights?

And you now have officially zero credibility with any post after saying something like that.

Yeah, their rights are owned by Kings know but I think its pretty doubtful that any of them will play for the Kings in the near future.

Holloway got an out clause in the contract I believe, since the tranfeer agreement wasn't done when he signed so the fact that he belongs to the Kings now don't mean much, IMO.

Möller could be used as a trade bait, but I think he'll get more time in SEL since he only played half this season. But Kings should have gotten new interest in him if they had lost it from the year before (that was pretty underwhelming). I doubt he return to the US this year though, but you never know couse he's a good player with a NHL team.

So my post got deleted huh? Just watch where he ends up...

Edit: if it matters, source was player on team. Don't know where he picked it up from but was asking "this Raanta guy we signed any good?"

Edit2: lol, guy might have been duped by some schmuck on twitter. Haha shall see. Would be huge boon for team.

Finnish G Antti Raanta has agreed to terms with an #NHL club, but it's not the #CBJ. Though #CBJ did have talks with him. @GibbyCBJ
