Bowness was most recently with Vancouver where the Vigneault coaching staff got fired.
Who is "TBLightningFeed"? I don't get twitter, so I'm just wondering if it's an actual confirmed hiring and I can't find anything about it online....Good hire if that's the case.

This account almost always just retweets articles pertaining to the Lightning, former Lightning players and, well, the NHL in general, I think. It was highly unusual of this account to play the "insider" role, citing an unnamed source while 'breaking' a story. You may find that suspect or intriguing. Read into it what you will.

Yeah, I guess Damian is a little slow on the news here...

Solid signing for you guys. For the most part Bones did a good job here with the Vancouver D although occasionally in the last few years there were issues with the pairings and ice time distribution.

Looking some more at guys that have been NHL goalie coaches, David Marcoux was with Calgary (2003-2009). His camp's alumni include Kiprusoff, James Reimer, and Cam Ward.

from an HF article

Also put Andy Moog in there. I always hear his name thrown around when discussing possible goalie coaches.
Last night's Coach's Corner made me think of maybe another interesting route to go regarding goalie coaches: There are so many successful goalies from Europe in NA and the NHL nowadays why not hire a European goalie coach?

A valid idea, but the rink size and style of play is different from Europe, and that is something of concern to me. You always hear about 'x' needing to transition to NA style hockey, etc.

Arturs Irbe is a successful goalie coach, although he also played a bunch of years in the NHL.

I wish SFY would just get on with signing Bowness, I've already got the 19/3 title for if/when he does. **** it, we'll do it live.

Well, he is likely an upgrade over what we have had these last few years when it comes to defense. I don't know much about this guy, but I do know you nuck's have always had a fairly solid defense, so that is encouraging.

The Lightning on Monday hired Rick Bowness as an associate coach and to lead the defense and penalty kill.

"We were looking for experience," coach Jon Cooper said. "It was a no-brainer for us."

Bowness, 58, has been a head or assistant coach in the NHL for 24 years, and has a wealth of knowledge that will be a huge help to Cooper in his first full season as an NHL head coach.

Cooper said Tampa Bay had face-to-face interviews with five other candidates.

Canadiens fire coach Pierre Groulx after Carey Price struggles late in season.

Quote:
It seems that Carey Price's down season has claimed a victim. It's not a shocking move to be entirely honest, as Price's problems last season came from a change in his technique that he and Groulx worked together on, trying to change his style to play closer to how Jonathan Quick plays.

Whether it was Price's decision or Groulx's we'll never know.

I would imagine Brian Garlock will follow Cooper to Tampa Bay and fill in the final assistant spot as soon as the Crunch are done. He has been Cooper's assistant at every level Cooper has coached at and is in Syracuse now. I would love Samuelsson, though.

I don't know if Samuelsson is in the cards now. Bowness is taking the defensive and PK responsibilities, which were what Samuelsson did in Phoenix.

Why? His coaching record isn't that great (and he was one of dirtiest players in the NHL).

Fan reasons. He was one of my favorite players when I first started to get into hockey. Same when Adam Oates was hired.

What about Bowness' head coaching career in the NHL? 123-289-48-3 or .321% of possible points earned. The teams he coached the longest for were beyond any mortal coach's ability (92-96 Sens, 96-98 NYI)

Tampa Bay, which is not renewing the contract of assistant coach Dan Lacroix, might not be done fiddling with the coaching staff. Yzerman said evaluations and decisions still have to be made on assistant Steve Thomas and goaltenders coach Frantz Jean, both of whom have expiring deals.

Whatever happens, or doesn't, Bowness said the Lightning was "definitely my first choice" because of Yzerman and his vision.

Boy... If we could add Groulx that would be a big upgrade over what we have had these last few years. We would be crazy to at least not want to contact him, given how Jean's contract is expiring anyways. I would be very happy to add the Hab's goal coach and the nucks defense coach at the least haha.

Although Cooper won two minor-league championships, the NHL coaching experience provided by Bowness that started as an assistant in Winnipeg in 1984-85 became as attractive as his ability to work and communicate with young and veteran blueliners. In Vancouver, Bowness got Chris Tanev to the next level and helped fast-track Frank Corrado after mentoring Kevin Bieksa and Alex Edler. In Tampa, he’ll have similar challenges with Victor Hedman and Keith Aulie but can sell the message through Sami Salo, Eric Brewer and Matt Carle.
Some names he's helped develop in Vancouver.
