Congrats. It's not easy and takes consistent effort and change, so kudos to you.

Yesterday, I realized my super new tank pants do have a soft spot. The puck found it. First proper shot-blocking bruise!

that's awesome dude, keep it up! I haven't lost any weight (not really my focus but could stand to drop 5 or 10, I definitely look slimmer but think weight has gone to my legs which are mush stronger) but knocked 50 pts off my cholesterol in 1 year, down to abut 180. Triglycerides still high tho, need to lay off the red meat which is esp tough to do as BBQ season ramps up

Played in a game today. Scored my 3rd goal of the season on a breakaway. I kept it simple and just shot a wrister 7 hole. No dekes or fakes

Got 4g2a in an 11-6 win against a team that who beat us earlier in the season.

Funny part is I scored 2 pairs between 2 shifts. The first were about 40 seconds apart in the first, then the next was about 20 seconds apart in the 3rd.

Finally got back on the ice for the first time in 3 weeks. Holy out of hockey shape batman. Just a stick time to see how my hand would hold up and ended up huffing and puffing playing 2s. One of the other players I know even asked where my legs went. Speed still there, stamina not.

Re-fueled before going back to pay a league game tonight. Will be scheduling an MRI/specialist appointment on Friday to make sure I didn't tear something and the ligaments are just loose like the GP doctor told me 2 moths ago (tendon dislocation).

3 goals and an assist in my first game back. Hit a high post on a sweet backhand from the hash marks and hesitated on slamming home another thinking the pass was for so done behind me.

Best part of all of it was being back on the ice and in the locker room with the boys.

Got an assist in the first period of a 7-1 win. First period I was fine but, as the game wore on I was getting less passes and icetime. Two shifts in the third period . Third period my favourite stick evaporated in my hands on a simple pass just to add to everything.

Not having near as much fun as the last season. 0-4-4 in 5 games. There's 3 types of players on my team: players that don't get passed to (don't touch the puck much either), players that don't pass, and players that only pass to their friends. I'm in the first category and I shouldn't be.

I guess I'm just frustrated. My new team is really unorganized. No lines, no breakout, no plan or anything, no e-mails a couple days before games to see who is available. I guess I'm just used to being on an organized team where we had e-mails & lines (is that a lot to ask for?). Too many hope passes, hail marys, and guys that try to go end to end and dangle the entire team. I just want to feel like I'm part of the team and relied on (at least defensively, I guess I should say I love taking faceoffs, killing penalties, and being a defensive centre) like on my other teams did, not used as a water break for the "top" players on my team.

I don't know. Next game we are playing the best team in the division that outscores every team by 10+ goals so I guess I'll see how my team reacts to being trampled.

I just realized yesterday that I've been with my team for about 7 years, which is longer than about anything else I've done. Crazy and awesome. Guys who had younger kids that are now going to college, guys with babies now in school, and I was single when I joined and have been engaged twice and now getting married and have a four year old Also met my fiancee through a teammate, so again, more craziness.

I'm not a doctor but everything I've seen and read is more that your weight and body fat levels are the dominant factor in your cholesterol and triglycerides. I'd bet if you ate nothing but red meat yet kept your calories low (not that it would necessarily be healthy/smart) your blood work would improve.

Just switched my steel for dual-radius pitched runners from No-Icing sports. Excited to try out the recommended adjustments. 8'/12' with a forward pitch hopefully will work better than the 9' stock I had before.

7 years is a long time. I have been playing with the same core of guys for going on 5 years. They are like my best friends because of it. Been too several wedding and several of them have kids now. We all are in our mid to late twenties. We always seem to be in the top of the standing and win championships, but this season is different. We have quite less talent then usual due to several of a better players having to go back to school or not having the funds. Yet we are going to the playoffs and beat the best team last night. I have no scored as many goals as usual but now I am playing more a defensive center role. I am having fun. Isn't it what beer league is all about? The only complain is not enough beer or can't afford to play more.

Had a crazy game last night.

We usually have 12 skaters and put 4 on D, 3 pairs of wings, and 2 centers (which I usually play). This time we had 10, so we had 2 D pairs and 2 lines.

Problem is, our five best players started the game and left me with 3 beginners and a shaky defenseman. Playing the next best team in our division.

Predictably, we played them pretty tight with the top line and D pair but were just completely dominated for the first half of the game. Neither of the wingers could do anything with the puck at the half wall so it was just turned back over to the other team and the D wasn't able to ice the puck. I was just focused on trying to keep the slot clear because the other team could skate and cycle. We literally didn't cross the red line with the puck for the entire first period and half of the second.

This also included two power plays. Just a disaster. We were down 2-1 because our goalie was just on top of everything.

Luckily, we had another winger show up about halfway through the second period. He's old but has good hands and is a quick skater. Completely changed the game. We ran the 5 wingers pickup style, which meant spreading out the better and weaker skaters, and on his first shift we spent 90 seconds in their end.

Towards the end of the second, after a few shifts where I was able to skate with the puck a bit and even (gasp) get shots on net, I snagged a loose puck at our blue line, skated around their one D, other D drove me wide across their blue line, put the puck on my backhand and cut back hard and drove the net. I was expecting the goalie to take me out and try to get a penalty, but he froze and the puck literally just slid right off my blade and in five hole.

First time I've ever scored a goal just by skating. And the second goal in two games that I scored without shooting the puck (tip in).

Somehow, we managed to get up 3-2 on these guys, again who were dominating us in the first half and constantly on the attack. With a minute left, they pull the goalie for the extra man, but we're keeping them from getting in the zone clean. Finally, with about 20 seconds left, they dump the puck, our goalie goes to steer it in the corner, it ramps up off his stick, off his arm, and goes top shelf.

End up tying the game 3-3. Not sure if that's a good or bad thing. But just a strange game.

Made it out to the morning skate today. Third time on the ice with the RSII. Still getting used to it, but really liking it for stick handling. Decent shots too. Friday I'll use it in a game and will give a more in depth review, but liking it so far. Been a week since I've been on the ice, felt good despite no sleep last night.

I'm a firm believer in goalies not coming out to play the puck at all at amateur levels of play. I've seen so many weird things happen and have had many happen to myself when I'd leave the net. Nothing is worse than the feeling of letting one of those in haha.

Nice job weathering the storm though, it's amazing how much of a difference one guy can make for a team.

Scored my second goal ever, which i'm pumped about.

Our facility has 4 sheets of ice, and we were playing on the center sheet which is where they do ALL of their public skates. It takes a long time for the water to freeze after they clean the sheet. So early in the first while i was playing D, their wing tried to skate down and dump the puck so they could get a change. Well because the water hadn't froze, the puck hit the E-brake just before the blueline leaving me all alone while their entire team was still skating towards the bench. I ended up having a 1 on 1 with a D-man and shot through her legs into a top corner. I normally put my shots dead center of the goalies chest, so i really tried to focus on where i was aiming my shot and it paid of big time. We ended up winning 3-2 for our first win of the season, all in all an awesome game.

It was 100% a fluke. He was in the net just making a fairly routine stick save and just happened to ramp up the stick. Nobody could blame him though, he probably faced 40+ shots and only gave up 3 goals

I was absolutely amazed the one winger made the difference. Honestly, we should have split up the lines so we had a strong and weak winger and a strong and weak D guy, but it's summer league mixed level and I didn't want to say anything. But I was absolutely pissed off that we were just getting shelled and dominated and it was night and day the second that guy showed up.

I'm going on year 4 with mine. Only beer league team I've been on and so much fun with the group we have. Guys for the most part talk and hang out outside of the games and it creates a great atmosphere in the locker room. We lose guys and pick up more and they ask to bring a friend and so on. I think we only have 5 guys from the original team created from a team disbanding and putting a bunch of free agents together. 3 of those 5 (myself, our oldest guy and our goalie) have been the brain trust. We had a fourth, but this past season was his last due to moving.

The biggest factor we look for in a new guys is how they fit in the locker room and then their play on the ice. It's important for us to keep the culture first, and let the results take care of themselves.

Starting to go through the weddings, but haven't seen kids popping out as we are mostly in mid to late twenties with some older guys mixed in.

Ah, most of the guys on my team were probably 35-40 at the start. So they all had kids and I was one of a couple young guys.

Funny that all the older guys kept talking about us younger players like we somehow were in awesome shape and could skate forever like high schoolers...nope
