If Volchenkov gets bought out I would love for Ottawa to leap on him

The Wings will have plenty of openings to bring up there younger players in the 2014-15 season there is no reason for them to do that this season other then maybe Tatar.

Tatar/Nyquist/Andy are all ready. I believe Tatar said that it's NHL or nothing at this point. He's ready for a 3rd line role.

I think for that reason that Sammy and Miller are definitely gone. That clears the 3rd line role for Tatar and 4th line role for Andy. Nyquist will get a top 6 role and that may come with the departure with Fil.

Montreal will buy out Tomas Kaberle for sure. Vancouver will probably buy out Roberto Luongo and David Booth but he's injured so they can buy out Keith Ballard. The Rangers should get out Brad Richards. For the Flyers, Bryz is a easy pick.

I don't think it's unrealistic to see Hossa being bought out.

I highly doubt Colorado would buyout Seth right after drafting him

Sammy is having surgery this off season therefore can not be bought out until he's completely healthy and that wont be until training camp, And i seriously doubt that Holland will buy him out then. When he pretty much just said that both Sammy and Bert will be both back next season, I think that both Bert and Sammy should be gone next season but i just dont see Holland doing it I agree we need to start bringing up the younsters instead of waiting until they get up there in age like Holland likes to do.

Horcoff will be bought out, and possibly Belanger if nobody will trade for him. Also, Hemsky will be traded for a pick or something.

Caps candidates:

Jeff Schultz
Joel Ward

Loser McPhee needs to free up space to resign Ribeiro so he doesn't look like an idiot for sending Eakin and a 2nd for him and then letting him walk.

Hossa will not be bought out. He is still one of the best RW in the game and the Hawks are looking to compete in the near future. He also has 31.7 million left on his contract and the Hawks brass will not pay 2/3 of that to get rid of a quality player.

The Hawks will deal with Hossa's contract ramifications at a later date.

This is uncertain.

There are two buy out times. the end of June before UFA starts and in September after arbitration hearings.

The agreement says players cant be bought out who were not at a certain time for the september buy outs. It doesnt say if that also applies for June.

Given the exceptions they gave montreal and Rangers last year ofbuying player out early instead of sending them home not to play...they may give teams these exceptions if they are just going to send them home for the year. If they plan on this player being a buy out they arent going to risk them getting injured.

Hossa is on a large and long contract that they use a buyout on in 2014.

If they allowed the rules to change where a team could attach the buyout to a player and use it when they want to (like in summer 2015 or 2016) or they allowed teams to trade these as assets instead of trading for the player who will be bought out could make things interesting.

Players with 1 year left on their contract are generally not the players you do the compliance buyouts on. Instead teams with cap space to eat some of these contracts would be good trade spots.

If Heatley was healthy and they did an old fashioned buyout on him With cap hit $7.5M and actual salary of just $5M. A standard buyout against the cap would cost the team $1.67M over 2 years in actual salary. In terms of cap hit it would be $2.5M over 2 years. This old standard buy out by Minnesota opens up $5M of cap space.

For example if Buffalo deals vanek and Miller they will have alot of cap space so they would be open to take back someone like Heatley (1 yr), or Booth/Ballard(2 yrs) with an expiring contract after 1-2 year.

the player you amnesty has to be on your roster at the last trade deadline.

In other words you cannot trade for a player now and anmesty his buyout
for a zero count against your cap but if you bought that player out at the regular buyout option then he would count against your cap

clear as mud right?
I heard elliotte Friedman on the radio saying you can trade for a guy then amnesty him.

Ryan Malone?

Just no space for him in Tampa, he has a limited NTC this summer so could get moved, just could be a problem. As he has a $4.5 million cap hit ($2.5 million salary), but hes only good for about 60 games a year.
