Perez was definately the heart of that line though. He's not getting enough praise for his game tonight and how he made his teamates better and by doing that he raised his game to an interesting level.
Bonk has played well and why does a checking centre have to be on the 4th line? Grabovski has not even proved he can play in the NHL and yet you want to put him ahead of our top checking centre and give him more icetime too? Why does he deserve it over Bonk, a player who has had a career in the NHL already and has played well enough to stay where he is at in the line-up??
Let players/prospects earn there spots before giving them...this team is coached by a guy and assisted by two others who worked their a$$es off every shift, game, practice and off the ice...nothing will be given, all will be earned!
One of the problems I have with Bonk's role as a shutdown center is that he is terrible in the faceoff circle. Your shutdown center should be able to win faceoffs in the defensive zone.
I don't mind having Bonk on the third line but I believe he will be playing elsewhere next season.....which is also fine with me.
Yes, he seems to not be great on faceoffs. Hopefully Muller will help him there, he was whicked on faceoffs.
and yes he won't be here next year. maybe not even after the trade deadline. If Chips is ready to make the jump by christmas, why should Gainey not trade Bonk(UFA next year) for a pick or something and use the pick and whatever and trade for whats needed for the playoff run?? this is a possibility...
It's what the first week and people are whining about making changes already? Give it a few weeks, at least 10 games and then judge whether or not we need to pull some trades to strengthen the team up.
Bonk has been solid, last season he really started to show up again, not offensively as he has in the past but he brought another dimension to his game that helped us somewhat last season. He gets the job done, let it be already.
Grabovsky was apparently getting destroyed in the camp and his far from beign NHL ready, Kost is apparently miles ahead of him, and almost got a spot out of camp.
Kostitsyn is NOT miles ahead of Grabo unless you are talking about being ready physically. When they played on team Belarus at the WHC, Kosty was one of the guys while Grabo was front and center. Besides, Grabo has a lot more to show in terms of achivements to date than Kosty. For example, during the lockout season, with the RSL loaded with quality NHL talent, Grabo took his no-name team to the playoffs, beating some teams featuring NHL players and finishing top 15 in scoring. During the same year he nearly took Belarus to the Olympics, being named MVP of the tourny. There is no doubt that he needs to adapt to NA game and get a bit stronger, but we all saw what talented, quick little players like Brierre and Gionta can do in the new NHL. I can see Grabo centering our number 2 line once he is ready.
