If you have a world class venue it also puts you on the map for international events. The WJHC would look a lot better in a new rink than the old beat up Colisee.

If you bring an NHL team, it brings huge economic spinoffs for the city and region.

I disagree with that, actually. I think Gainey was actually the opposite of that before the spring of 2009. This is not a defense of Gainey or anything either, but I think his moves in 2009 were definitely out of character. Prior to that Gainey was very very conservative. For a few years we made very small moves and very small signings. It was his original goal to build the team from within. But even at that he was too conservative because we missed several opportunitite to deal players to acquire picks. In 2009, he did a complete 180 and became very trigger happy. I think at that point he was probably under a lot of pressure because of the centennial collapse. So, I think with Gainey it was a tale of two extremes. But the aggresive extreme was out of character with most of his tenure.

Well the Kings are much more aggressive on home ice. Still pretty evenly matched so far. Next goal will be huge for either team.

I can't see the Hawks not re-signing Bickell.

People should stop mentioning Bickell's name for us....he will either re-signed or go elsewhere. No way are we in a position to overpay.

Joel Ward got 3 million for his playoff performance. I can easily see a team give more than that for Bickell.

He'll definitely get a massive raise from the 500k he's making now.

Do you think that on a year where teams need to trim on salary that this player is in a salary bracket above let's say Prust?

Bickell's brand is hot, but what does that translate to this year?

I guess we'll see. And like most summers we'll wonder WTF were they thinking.

Unless Bergevin really thinks he is a legit top 6 winger on a contender and can put up 25 goals and 50 points year in and year out, I don't see him paying the 4.5 mil cap hit(+-0.3 mil) he will cost.

If you sign a guy like that 4 years at 18 mil and he's on your 3rd line putting up 30-35 points a year you screwed up your salary scale. When Gallagher wants a new deal playing on the 1st or 2nd line, pretty hard to tell him you're only offering 2 years and 6 mil on a "bridge" contract and he wants 5-6 years at 5 mil per year.

He got what I thought he'd get as a UFA 3 years and 3 mil. That's a lot for only one NHL season with not much other than fights. Sestito also re-signed. Enforcer market not as deep.

Orr?

McGrattan?

anybody else?
