Trade for him within the buyout window, once he passes the physical the trade becomes official and you immediately buy him out. If it were to go down, that's how it would go down. Not really any risk to it imo. I don't see the Islanders being interested though. They're about to move to a new arena and will probably have new ownership soon. They have a good, young team and shouldn't be giving up important assets to save money.
But if the current ownership is looking to maximize $$ (to recoup the $$ lost over the years), getting Rick off the books, while having the new area and a playoff team would increase the max value if selling.
Either way, I am happy for the Isles to be done with DiPi, just an awful situation for him and the team. At least Tavares came out of the situation, but seriously, DiPi hurts himself in an all star game and his career is ruined
There has to be some point where a GM says we can use the money elsewhere. I think there is some areas where can use that 24 million in house. One, Dallas's treatment of Derrick Roy's injury shows we may not be handling injuries right. Maybe we hire a personal trainer to follow around Tyler Myers so he finally bulks up. Better equipment? More Scouts/Analytics? Training/Development? If that 24 million is coming out any of those areas then my asking price is high. Strome, 15th pick and a 2nd. If 24 million stays in Pegula's pocket, then as a fan, I'll just take the 2nd.
