My favorite was the Pavel Bure trade.... too bad he got hurt. Imagine if he was still able to play. One of the few stars that played well here although it was the dark years.

Imagine being on the ice as a goalie vs. these two on a 2on1:

Reminds me of the legendary AC Milan pic with these 3 legends on a free kick:

Too bad the Rangers didn't get them in the primes of their careers. Pretty much like AC Milan. Besides the dominance in their respective leagues of course.

And as has already been said, can't get pissed about the Dupuis trade given the context at the time. Didn't look like it was awful. Not to mention a big part of what he is today is from being on a line with Crosby or Malkin. The moaning about this one is overblown.
I totally agree. While I like Dupius and wish he could stay - no one here would know where he was if he wasn't playing for Pittsburgh.

We traded for Umberger's rights but he didn't want to sign with us.

I can't remember if we traded his rights for anything before the negotiating period ended.

Umberger left as a FA and signed with Philly.

On the Bure trade, with how few games he played for us, we are lucky all those picks we traded sucked (although we did draft Farlardeau with the pick we got back)

Philadelphia Flyers acquire 1978 1st round pick (#7-Ken Linseman)
New York Rangers acquire right to hire head coach Fred Shero

Well that's certainly an interesting trade. Could that even go down in today's NHL?

The Rick Middleton trade was an unmitigated disaster. 23 year old Middleton goes on to score 400+ goals for Boston while aging Ken Hodge plays a season and a half before being sent down to the minors ala Redden.

If they went D again, I'm guessing they would have gone with Parent or Lashoff.

41 might have been interesting if they'd still take Sauer at 40. Wonder if they would have considered Stasny.
Bourret. He would have been the pick if they did not get Staal. Source: Don Maloney

Far and away the worst trade. Middleton was highly skilled, young star. Hodge was finished.

Espo and Cherry alluded to the fact that Middleton needed to get out of New York or "he would have gotten into trouble". Something along the lines of hanging out with the wrong crowd, drugs, alcohol, etc. He did stay out of trouble in Boston, and his prime was absolutely HHOF-calibre.

Bathgate was in our prospect camp this year as well.

We acquired Umberger but didn't sign him. Was it us or was it him? I remember hearing different things. He became UFA and signed in Philly.

Dunham was picked up because Richter had broken his head (literally, a skull fracture) and was done. We needed a goalie bad. I remember Dunham playing really well in his half-season after we acquired him. He was godawful the next year and had leg issues, IIRC.

That was also the trade where we moved Kloucek. Too bad about him... He could still be a player in the league to this day if not for the knee injury. Never really recovered from that. Kid could lay wood though. Unfortunately, Cherneski all over again.

We didn't nick name him "Trader Phil" for nothing man. Also, this is the period that most of the fan base referred to the team as the Strangers.

For the old-timers here, what's the consensus about the Bathgate trade?

Don McKenney/Andy Bathgate for Bob Nevin/Dick Duff/Bill Collins/Arnie Brown/Rod Seiling

Bathgate was considered past his prime at that point, and the Rangers did get some good years of service out of Nevin, Brown and Seiling.

Agreed.

Although the trade that sent Ridley and Miller to Washington for Bobby Carpenter was a real gemstone too.

Bad memories Emile wanted Cashman and Hodge to wake up Espo

Check this:

Quote:
The pick was originally owned by the Penguins, but was shipped to the Toronto Maple Leafs two years ago in exchange from Hal Gill. The Leafs then moved that pick last summer to the Rangers for Ryan Hollweg.

The Rangers traded the pick back to Pittsburgh on Saturday for an unsigned goaltender, Chad Johnson of Calgary, and drafted Bathgate, a forward who is the grandson of the great Andy Bathgate.
http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/...rticle1199724/

So it was actually Chad Johnson for Ryan Hollweg and Andy Bathgate.
