Agreed, don't expect any bold moves by Nonis unless they are no brainers which rarely come along.

Chill this is Clarkson, not Parise.

And if he goes to Toronto he would be taking a home-town discount, cuz we aint overpaying him

Not according to hfboards atleast, Rielly hasn't been a Norris canditate yet since being drafted, so he's a bust, Tampa wouldn't even sniff this offer . 5th overall + 21st overall might be able to get you 6th overall in hfboards world

all these moves certainly DONT help us grow as a team. Why would we trade our #1 and a top 5 pick from last years draft for Drouin, when we can probably draft a player like Mantha with that pick?

Would people rather Mantha and Rielly or Drouin? It shouldnt be much of a question.

This is so stupid, makes toronto a much worse team. Why would we acquire the third pick. It's clear drouin will be drafted there, and we have absolutely no need for more top 6 wingers. Why would Kadr and Fransoni sign for so cheap. That Kulimen trade is also brutal, no point in making that deal. It adds nothing to the current roster plus we loose a key member of our team. If your trying to justify loosing Kulimen by signing Clarkson, that too is a downgrade. Kuli> Clarkson, especially when you factor in how bad Clarkson is gonna be overpaid. These moves make are team worse now and in the future.

yes, the team is moving in the right direction and must continue to do so in order to gain respectability back, and with that in mind, here are the moves they should make ahead of next season in order

and yes i know this is all a pipe dream ... but one can dream

1.

obviously tough to judge rfa numbers on many of these contracts so im just ball parking these for cap sake

own team ufa/rfa signings and promotions:

rfa
Kadri - 2.5 / year
Komarov - 1.25 / year
Gunnarsson - 2.5 / year
Franson - 2 / year
Colborne - 1 / year

ufa
O'Byrne - 1.5 / year
Bozak - 3.75 / year
Orr - 850k / year

promote:
Ashton

2.

move up to 3rd overall to take Drouin, or if not then Mackinnon (but Drouin would be the goal)

Toronto gets:
1st round - 3rd overall
Brewer

Tampa gets:
21st overall
3rd round pick - Tampa's choice 2013 or 2014
Reilly

3.

Trade Kulemin

Pittsburgh gets
Kulemin

Toronto gets
2013 3rd round pick
2014 conditional 3rd round pick if penguins make conference finals if not then 4th round
Eric Hartzell - goalie prospect

4.

Trade Gunnarsson

Columbus gets:
Gunnarsson
D'Amigo - ahler/prospect/depth player

Toronto gets:
LA's 1st rounder - 26-30 overall

5.

League ufas

David Clarkson - 4.25 / year
Mark Eaton - 1 / year

final roster

Van Riemsdyk - Bozak - Kessel
Lupul - Kadri - Clarkson
Ashton - Grabovski - Frattin
Komarov - McClement - Orr
Colborne

Phaneuf - Gardiner
Brewer - Cody Franson
Liles - O'Byrne
Eaton

Reimer
Scrivens

leaves just about 200k in cap space if i used capgeek.com correctly!

with drouin in pipeline and adding a late first + goalie prospect
I think you really need to put the pipe down, because your dream of yours is totally unrealistic in every way, shape, and form AND on every possible level.

At least it's good for a , if nothing else.

NO to Clarkson(NJ)...NO to Bozak(TOR)...Buy/out Grabovski(TOR) end of year...Buy/out Liles(Tor)...Draft Rychel (LW) or Erne(RW)...

offer sheet 25 year old Clutterbuck(MIN) $3.25 mil. 4 years.
Sign Boyd Gordon(PHX) FA 1.8 mil. 2 years

Lupul - Kadri - Kessel
Van Riemsdyk - Colbourne/Grabovski - Frattin/Clutterbuck
Komarov/Kulemin - Gordon/Grabovski - Clutterbuck/McClement/Frattin
McLaren/Komarov - McClement/Gordon - Orr/McClement

Gunnerson - Phaneuf
Gardner - Franson
Fraser - Holzer/Blacker/Ranger

Thats 14 forwards...Lots of competition with Ross and Biggs in 2014-15
Rielly will replace gunnerson eventually 2014-15...
Still need a #1 Center and a #1 pairing Defense first D-Man.

Decisions have to made on Kessel/Phaneuf/Kulemin all in last year of contract and must not be left to walk without a return of some kind...

If he's taking a home-town discount, he is staying in New Jersey. He only signs elsewhere if he gets massively overpaid in both term and money.

Agreed on some things, not on others.

Clarkson - agreed. Do not want. He's going to get paid a solid 1.5M more than he deserves IMO.
Bozak - agreed. exact same reason as Clarkson.
Grabo - disagree. I'd like to trade him for a guy like D. Morris. If Phoenix doesn't bite on that, than I think Grabo straight up for Wisniewski is a very realistic trade proposal (same cap hit / term remaining. Both are overpaid, both fill the opposing teams major need, both players have holes to their games). In a year if Wisniewski doesn't seem to be filling the role well, we can buy him out then. But he would instantly be our best RHD.
Gordon - Would love to get him as a replacement to Grabo on the checking line.
Weiss - Would like to get him as a replacement to Bozak on the top line.
Draft - I really want Lazar (out of the guys we can semi-realistically get).

JVR - Weiss - Kessel
Lupul - Kadri - Frattin
Kulemin - Gordon - Komarov
Ashton - McClement - Orr

Gunnarson - Phaneuf
Gardiner - Wisniewski/D. Morris
Fraser - Franson
Holzer

Reimer
Scrivens

it was the phrase "promote Ashton" that really made me laugh, I like the kid and someday he may be a good spot player, but he is nowhere near ready for NHL play

also sign Mark Eaton, Korbinian Holzer will be the 7th Dman next year

O'Byrne will probably be gone and they'll certainly try to move Liles in the summer

The Leafs need to move ahead out of the mud not keep spinning their wheels in it

Drouin. Easily.

And I'm a big fan of Rielly as you should be able to tell.

I would want Barkov.

Drouin = P. Kane potential
Barkov = Kopitar potential

That's how I see it.

It won't happen though. To move into the top ~4, Rielly would HAVE to be on the table, and I don't see Nonis doing that. Doesn't seem like a big risk taker.

Reilly, picked 5th overall last year, has done nothing to lower his value.

Adding the 21th and a 3rd would be more than enough to get the 3rd overall pick.

I find it funny that people see:

5th overall
21st overall
3rd round pick

as better value than:

Reilly
21st
3rd overall.

On a side note: I wouldn't do it from the Leafs perspective.

Different drafts. Last years draft was considered one of the weakest in the last 10 years. This years draft is considered to have among the best depth of top end talent over the past 10 years.

A 5th overall pick this year > 5th overall pick last year, at least in terms of value (doesn't mean Rielly can't become a better player than the 5th overall pick this year obviously).

The Leafs would most likely try to move Gardiner before they move Reilly.
The Leafs need a number one centre even if they resign Bozak and a RHD to play with Pylon.
Hard things to do. My bet is that the Leafs stay the course and try to(unsuccessfully) sign a few UFA's and try to move Grabo(good luck with that).
