Hawks power play sucks big time. Toews, Sharp and Kane do nothing good.

Yes, evident and gamechanging calls like the one that replacement referees made and so on...that will be discussed. But in hockey, every ****ing thread is now filled with hooking that should have been called compared to diving and embellishing....It's a freakin tough sport to judge and as fans we are the harshest (is that a word?) of any sport.
Reffing is a difficult and thankless job in any professional sport. The problem is that the NHL seems to be doing nothing about it.

Consistency. As much as the 2 referee system promised in theory, it failed miserably to deliver better ( more consistent, more balanced, more competent ) on ice decisions.

There is no doubt that instantly doubling the number of refs diluted the talent pool as much as a six to twelve team franchise expansion did. Plus it also doubles the number of incompetent, biased and agendaed zebras.

The other issue is that the league has clearly mandated the refs to modify the type and frequency of penalties called in the playoffs. I personally want to see more hitting, skating and scoring and less after-the-play face washing, cross checking of goal scorers and general butt plug behavior.

Perfect third period by the Hawks and that should be it for the Kings. Bring on the Bruins.

Loosing in LA for the Kings is significant.
Plus LA was ahead 1-0 and 2-1.

Chicago better finish this next game.

I meant in general. From what I remember he had really good hands and vision - he's talented. If we had anotherwise hardworking and large team he would compliment it.

But we don't, so we don't have any room or use for him.

he's very talented

he is so far on the broken side of things that i'd be very, very wary to give anything of any significance for him.

If Price was 2 wins away from winning his 7th straight playoff series, with a Cup ring, and a Conn Smythe trophy he would probably have no problems with the fans.

Easy there big fella, did you notice the ......just curious, do you think Quick could handle the pressure in Montreal if he was our goalie? He might complain about not being able to get groceries also...

Both are good goalies, one has alot of pressure, and one doesn't...

all NHL players want to be in the playoffs and trying to win the Cup.

Nothing surprising there.

Quick didn't have the pressure of a Bernier breathing down his back for much of his career?

Is there pressure in MTL? Yes. But Price has been coddled by the organization and many fans for some time.

Pittsburgh is about to be further proof that you can't go and buy a bunch of players at the deadline then hope for the best.

Chemistry is important. Chicago, Bruins and Kings are largely unchanged from their team at the start of the season.

The team that "wins" the deadline rarely seems to go on to win the Cup, I've noticed.

Can't under-estimate chemistry. It's fine to bring in one guy, he's not going to mess up too much, but if you're bringing in 3-4 guys, it rarely works in your favor.

There is also the important point that the Penguins bought more name than talent on the players they got.

Murray, Morrow and Iginla. Guys that have gotten old, slow, and of very limited effectiveness outside their core skill sets.

So we're in agreement -- Gionta is crap.

I had a feeling Iginla wouldn't work. He's used to being the guy. Now he's completely unnoticeable.

Luckily the only thing of value they gave for him was the 1st rounder.

yes and no I guess, you need a good blend and a good solid deep lineup not always targeting the best player out there. The Bruins were big buyers 2 years ago and it payed off

LA got Carter last year

I would prefer UFA route and having the players here a bit longer and if they are going to make a big move at the deadline then it should be for a player the team plans on keeping going forward
