The Habs can't just 'send' a player to any Q team they want. The Q team needs to draft him in the Euro draft and own his rights.

I see Lazar as a future captain in the NHL and the type of core player that wins you a Stanley Cup. The reality is, I see him going in or near the top ten.
It would be a huge turn of events if Lazar provided more offense at the NHl level than Brown, Brown was the much better offensive player to this point in both careers, compare the numbers.

Brown had a ton more assists and led his team by almost 20 points his darft year, no comparison.

Sure they can. They say draft Mads Eller and you get free publicity for having a Habs prospect.

I just don't want Fucale in the 1st.
I prefer for us to stay away from Mantha or Gauthier at 25, but whatever, if they pick them, they better give me some goodies in the 2nd round.
Wouldn't be terribly thrilled to go after a D-man in the 1st not named McCoshen or Mueller (who I doubt falls).

Really though, I am far more excited about the talent in the 2nd round. Picks 34-36 will be the more exciting ones to me. I hope we get a dropper at 25 or just reach for someone like Burakowsky or McCarron.

Mads Eller has been my "sleeper" in the 7th all year. I think he's got an NHL future. Don't think he'll amount to any more than a 3rd liner (if that), but he's definitely worth picking up.

Actually, since Brown was an "overager" ('84), I'd compare both's 2nd junior season. Then the numbers are closer:

2012-13 Edmonton Oil Kings [A] WHL 72 38 23 61 47 25 | Playoffs 22 9 2 11 20 -2

2001-02 Guelph Storm OHL 63 41 32 73 56 4 | Playoffs 9 8 5 13 14 5

But still, Brown was a clear-cut top-5 choice in the best draft in NHL history.

25th Gauthier
34th Poirier
36th Dauphin
55th Carrier

I'd like a D in there but if the draft actually played out that way...I wouldn't be ecstatic, but I wouldn't be mad. All four are players that I at least like, especially Poirier and Dauphin.

And no one would ever be able to say the Habs are ignoring the players in their own backyard again, so there's that

I'd be okay with it. They aren't the picks I'd go for but it would still be a very good draft. Great to see the Q have such a good year.

Not sure about Gauthier at 25

But Poirier, Dauphin and Carrier will be amazing

Decently happy with the 2nd round, mad at the 1st.. Probably mad that we didn't get any of the big bodied boys in Bailey, Dickinson or Nastasiuk.

Brown went 13th overall not top 5.

This year's draft has been compared to 2003.

Lazar may match Brown as a goal scorer but as a playmaker, bRown is above average while Lazar is well below average.

I would need to know who we passed on.

I think people here will be surprised when/if Carrier slips into round 3 though. Horrible team + Team far away that probably wasn't scouted a whole lot + Did not play after mid-December + late birthday = very likely slider.

I agree with some others, I wouldn't want Gauthier at 25, nor Mantha. The subsequent 3 picks are pretty great, and I think it's so good that it's very unlikely to happen. Of course, we could always look for a better 'mix' of players, but in pure quality, well, those last 3 picks are quality . But it always depends on who we pass on to select them.

I fell in love with this scouting report on him.
But watching him play makes you want more. A player with that speed, that size and those hands should get a lot more production than he does.

25th Gauthier - Possible faller, wouldn't be shocked if he's drafted in early 20s
34th Poirier - Possible riser, should be drafted earlier (per Woodlief)
36th Dauphin - Should be drafted in that vicinity (30-42)
55th Carrier - Should be drafted earlier

A team should never draft a player that is compared to Wolski.

That's not what I'm saying, he was ranked as a clear-cut top 5 pick.

And let's not kid ourselves, this is not 2003 redux, it's maybe the deepest draft since 2003. But I strongly doubt we'll see the amount of franchise players we had 10 years ago. Drafts like 2003 happen once per generation (1979 being the only comparison).

This would be a nice haul -

25 - Mueller
34 - McCarron
36 - McCoshen
55 - Comrie

I was just thinking, that should be enough to get people to run in the opposite direction from Mantha. Not exactly a ringing endorsement.

Don't know how I feel about cramming player evaluations into 160-characters-or-less tweets, either...

Would be great. Comrie could very well end up as the best goalie of his draft class IMO.

Isn't Wolski a below average skater though? I thought that was his demise, along with no heart. The new lockout rules did not help him, nor did it help our draft pick from that year, Chipchura.
