OT: Center Ice Preview/Demo

Does annyone know if the Center Ice will offer a preview package for two weeks at the start of the season like they did last year? I'm looking forward to two free weeks of hockey, how 'bout you guys?

I'm fairly sure they are doing that.

Usually, it is just the first week. Order the package, worth the 149 just to see Don Cherry on HNIC.

I liked the free preview last year, especially after having to go through the lockout, but man, if I ordered that I'd never leave the house.

Nah, I'm good with one free week, otherwise my grades would fly out the window. Besides, I'd rather use the money to get tix.

damnit, im stuck.. i've been watching Center Ice with this free preview and i dont know what to do.

for $129 its REALLY worth it, however like previous posters said, i'd never leave. I don't have school anymore, so i dont think its that bad.

However:

1) do they show HD programming?

2) do they show playoff hockey? (even though i am assuming towards the end of the playoffs they'll be on Versus, etc)

No they don't. I have called and complained many times but I don't think it's gonna change for a while. Time Warner charges me an extra $70 buck for my HD and I dont' even get ESPN HD for free. I think I have about 15-20 HD channels! The only way I get to see a hockey games on HD is if it's on NBC. I don't get MSG HD either!

I'm enjoying the free preview of Center Ice as well. The only problem is there are so many games on at the same time, that it's hard to watch as much of each game as you want. I watch five or six minutes of one game, then flip to the other and watch that, and then go to the next game. I was flipping back and forth between six games the other night. It gets a little easier later at night when there are only three or four west coast games on, like Calgary and LA.

But man, finally getting to watch the Western Conference teams is sweet. Zherdev and Nash were awesome tonight.

i did it!

a full year of hockey.. damn, there goes my non-existent life.

i think the best thing to do is check the game schedule the night of, or a little bit before and mark off which games/players you want to see. switching back and forth has been torture (even in the 3 nights i've been watching).

its also amazing when they have some games in intermission and another game still on due to scheduling.. awesome! that defintely makes me hate intermission less.

It's very distracting....

Watched Jumbo and the Sharks tonight....That is a very good team ya'll. They have TWO budding studs on D in Ehrhoff and Carle and imo TWO 1st lines.

I'm on the Fence....it is especially sweet come playoffs though

Just adding my two cents here. I absolutely love Center Ice and think it is well worth the money (I still have 2 VCRs in the house and often tape at least one game for review later). The only thing is that if you are a Rangers' fan who loves the prospects, are on a limited income and you are in the NYC area, you should get almost all the Rangers games on cable and should think about saving your money for the internet broadcasts of Hartford and CHL games. They are about 6-7 dollars each and are of moderately acceptable quality. It will take quite a few games to eat up the $129, and if you change your mind during the season, they have another chance to buy a half season of Center Ice in January (don't remember how much it is). I for one spend many winter evenings watching the late Center Ice games, and think that one of funniest things to do for 5 minutes on Saturday night before going out is watching Don Cherry on Coaches Corner. We had four people competely hysterical at his straight-faced antics this past Saturday. Also, the 5 minute Hot Stove that comes on between the second and third period of the first HNIC game is one of the most intelligent discussions of hockey that you can get (even though JD is no longer on it).

Bernier and Michalek - wow. Thats some Sharks team, easily my fave to watch so far in the West. Hate to give up the Center Ice package but I can't do it, bad enough I spend so much time on the Rangers & HF

Btw, I don't like how they just cutaway after the game(cue that awful 70's porno music), would be nice to get the pregame/postgame for that kinda money....

You gotta love when Cherry talks about Jagr and pronounces his name as "Ya'ameah Yaggah". I was cracking up the other night.

CI is an absolute steal, but like people said, it takes away too much time from the other important things in life. Plus, living in NY, we get all the Rangers, Isles, Devils games, plus whatever is on OLN plus the NBC games ... thats enough for me on my limited schedule.

I have absolutely no life between months of October-April as I catch as many games as I can on Center Ice.

Anyway, I'm now off to take my mandatory weekly shower before PHI-NYR game starts.

First off, I have it and I really like it. It's great for any hockey fan. Hockey Night In Canada on Saturday nights is just awesome, it's the canadian equivalent to Monday Night Football and I look forward to it every week. Select games are supposed to be in HD but with my IO Digital Cable I have not seen any in HD yet other than the local teams' games and those that are broadcast on INHD from VS. They do show select playoff games from the first 2 rounds.

I've had it for 3 years now. Your best bet is pick 2 maybe 3 games tops in a timeslot and keep on those games. Don't try to watch every game you will crazy. If one ofthe games you picked gets out of hands then go to another. The best use I get out of it is the later games 9-10 plus when my wife who is a teacher goes to sleep and the late night hockey begins. So far from what I've seen so far in the short year I think Buffalo may be the team to beat in the East. They are young, big and fast and have a full 4 line team. You also get to see alot of the Western Canadien hockey rivals. If your a hockey fan and have the time to watch as many games as you want it is well worth the 150.

definitely agree with you with the picking games and the later games being better.

i am going to enjoy watching Canadian teams, and some West Coast ones too, like LA (with Kopitar) SJ (damn Thornton, he's good, Bell, Marleau, Cheechoo et al. ), Anaheim (wow, Pronger, Neidermeyer, Selanne, Getzlaf, et al.)

Buffalo is definitely going to be a difficult team. so fast, and their ugly jerseys can be distracting.

Yes, that's really good advice. I was thinking about that earlier today, that I should probably try to watch a few select games rather than 1/10 of each one flipping around the dial like an idiot. Watching the west coast teams has been great after all the years I was limited to watching just Rangers, Devils, and Islanders games on MSG and FSNY and the occasional Detroit or Colorado game on ESPN.

It's great tosee other hockey teams we don't see all the time around here between the Rangers, Isles and Devils. I used to go see the Isles on roadtrips but they are unwatchable. This year me and 4 friendas are heading to Boston for a road trip to see the B's and Sens. I see the Isles and Rangers 82 times a year no need I have to take a ride to see them. Should be fun see Chara play against the Sens. Best part getting up to Boston for a nice dinner with the boys.
