Kaboom. The right kind of move for a team that needs to get better puck skills all around while not trading anything of importance for talent.

Decent. I didn't even know transactions were allowed.

I'm guessing that if we don't sign him, then we don't give up the pick. I like the deal.

I believe they're allowed between teams that are no longer playing.

I was really hoping the new CBA had eliminated these trading of rights deals.

What does he have 1 year left before going to the K? Still a great guy to have around those young defenseman. It might also be very telling of who they're looking at in the draft. He's worked wonders with Malkin and is a first class player.

With all of the rumors swirling around, maybe the Stars are looking at Malkin too.

They're allowed year-long, except for the roster freeze around Christmas.

Sergei Gonchar is close to moving to Matallurg Magnitogorsk of the #KHL to join Mike Keenan. #Sens

I'm not sure I see Gonchar choosing to end his career in Dallas. Don't see the appeal as a UFA but it is low risk only giving up a sixth if they do sign him.

Sens get a draft pick for nothing, assuming they aren't willing to give Gonchar what he wants.

Sweet move good luck in Dallas if they sign you, Gonch

Why? I see nothing wrong with it if a team wants to give something up to gain exclusive negotiating rights prior to July 1.

Yeah I am fairly sure you can make a deal after the deadline, those traded player though can't play in the playoffs.

That's a very good move if they get him under contract. Goligoski has basically the same skillset with better wheels, less size and a less awesome slapper from the point. If Gonch can work with him a little more in the know-how department, they might suddenly see Goligoski's game hit a critical mass and skyrocket. That's sort of what was going on when the Stars traded for Goligoski in the first place.

Ottawa probably gets nothing if he doesn't sign. Good move by both no matter what.

Stock draft picks by signing veterans to significant one year deals, then trading them away at the deadline. Genius!

We traded off the ones we had no (or little) intention of re-signing at the deadline.

Morrow? Washed up and wasn't interested in playing here.
Roy? Attempt at finding some talent.
Jagr? A fat check could bring him back.

We still have Whitney and Robidas.

We want older guys who are professionals, I'm pretty sure Gonchar fits that bill.
