Makes sense. Absolutely gigantic and iconic venue located almost smack dab in the middle between Philadelphia and Pittsburgh.

Would make for a great Battle of Pennsylvania.

...and cue the bellyaching over whose 'turn' it is to participate and who 'deserves' to play in it.

Go.

Inevitable...and it will be amazing.

Also I expect at least 30 deaths. 107,000+ Penguins and Flyers fans split down the middle in one space aided by alcohol...this'll be good.

Imagine the site with a 50/50 ticket split. Half orange half black, straight down the middle. That'd be incredible.

Because it's the Flyers that are looking into this would they be considered the home team if it was to become a Winter Classic? If so they would be the first NHL team to host a second Winter Classic since they hosted one in 2012.

Don't forget to set up a mother's room.

Somebody might have to take Sydney there.

I think the bellyaching will begin to subside next season as the league rolls out a full menu of outdoor games. At this point the most marketable teams are all involved.

I'm thinking Stadium Series as opposed to WC, but really what's the difference anymore?

That the WC is every year and at present time, the idea that the SS will be as well is just an assumption on your part, no?

well, the Flyers have talked about doing this before so I'd guess if it's coming from them then it's not the WC and will be something else entirely.

I don't know if the Stadium Series games are going to have as much surrounding them, like alumni games and other events. They also won't have 24/7 series dedicated to them.

Why do the teams need to go through the NHL to get an outdoor game?

For all the small market teams, why can't they just set up their own game vs another small market team? I would think that all the permission they need is from the two teams and the PA, but probably only for those two teams.

I'm sure there are rules that games must be played in the home team arenas unless given an exemption by the league.

What reason would the league have to veto an outdoor game?

Given how controlled they have been about the branding and rollout, with an application process and whatnot, it doesn't look like they're interested in random small-market matchups. If it doesn't look like they're going to sell out and draw big ratings, sponsorships and media, the league probably doesn't want them eroding the brand.

Would love to see this happen.

Would love the 24/7 even more if Bryz is still with the Flyers.

At the rate they're going, by 2015 all regular season and preseason games in all cities will be outdoors, and then in a couple of years all playoff games too.

All of this ''talk'' means nothing.

1. The fact that this would be the Penguins 4th outdoor game makes me think it won't happen soon.

2. An outdoor game at a neutral site doesn't benefit any NHL franchise city in real money. All the income goes to Happy Valley.

3. Penn State would have legitimate money issues pulling this off without a serious cash injection from the NHL.

It's a wet dream for Pennsylvanians prized Penn State to host their favorite hockey team playing their biggest rival.

The logistics just aren't there.

Yes, by all means. Let's give the Pens a FOURTH outdoor game, and the Flyers a THIRD in six years.

If the NHL was really going to do this, they should've saved the Pens for this game, and had someone else (St. Louis, Minnesota, etc.) play the game at Soldier Field next season.

Although I don't know if the NHL really wants to affiliate itself with Penn State at this point. Still a bit of sticky situation up there. Given the whole Theo Fluery and Mike Danton stuff, they might want to stay as far away as possible for the time being.

This would be really cool. The fact that the Rangers are having 2 outdoor games next year should mean the pens and flyers getting another outdoor game isnt that big of a deal.
