Why Lindy? Just asking. He is my last choice outside of Messier/Gretzky

Or wait around for Tippett.

great move for Edmonton, a coach they can grow with. The Rangers didnt want that. If I had to bet, my money is on Vigneault.

That has a lot do with their goaltender playing like crap since Pittsburgh won the Stanley Cup.

He needs to start small.

Messier could be a completely failure, or he could be exactly what this team needs. Risk is too great IMO.

Vigneault makes the most sense, now. Tippett will probably stay in Phoenix. I think mediocrity is being associated with Ruff and his time in Buffalo. Messier and Gretzky are sensationalist names being brought up by desperate Rangers journalists trying to sell more papers.

Ruff gets a little overrated because he was the longest tenured coach for a long time, so people automatically assumed he must be doing something right.

But honestly, he does not have much to show for those years except one trip to the finals and a bunch of average seasons.

No, that isn't just why. He's coached some great teams. 1999, 2006/07, 2010 are a few where the Sabres finished high and made it to the post season. 1999 they had the Hull incident. Ruff is a good coach; he wore out his welcome in Sabres Land. Brought players up like Pominville, Vanek. He just is not a fit for what this team needs. Ruff isn't a bad coach by any stretch. And nowhere have I seen him be overrated

I'm shocked Scott Gordon hasn't even been looked at as an option. He was only a team USA assistant along with Torts and Wilson as the head coach that won a silver medal.

Want a young coach that's a good tactician with Eakins off the market? Here's your guy

Slats is lazy. He only makes the easy expected moves. Sad that Eakins is likely gone and the Rangers haven't interviewed anyone yet.

They should be interviewing soon with these "questionnaires" sent out.

I have a question; do we assume Tippet is already out of the picture, or do we think there's a small chance he comes someplace else?

I have no idea. Sadly, neither do the powers that be.

When is it that his contract officially expires? July 1 or 5?

Tippett is still a great candidate. But I myself wouldn't bank on him being available. I know Maloney likes him, and he is a good coach.

Sucks no one has permission.

I thought it was sometime in June.

That could be it too. I just figured their contracts followed suit with the player ones. Could be wrong.

Player free agency starts. On 7/1. So the earliest a player contract could be signed is then. Coaches can sign whenever they're able.

Thanks for the info!

With that, I think Sather temporarily has left Tippett out of the picture, if not permanently.

Coaches you'd rather than Mark Messier:

-Phil Jackson

Go.

Fixed some typos (iPad is tricky). I think Sather is banking on Tippett being available.
