Too bad the Oilers don't have Joe Sakic?

I can certainly see Eakins asking MacT to acquire Ben Scrivens to be Oilers' 2nd goalie.
Scrivens is from the Edmonton area and has a great relationship with Eakins.

I can see Scrivens winning the starting job from Dubnyk. Wonder what the Leafs would ask for in trade?
MacT says he wants to take some risks...how about Edmonton boys Scrivens, Phaneuf and Frattin for Kingston's Taylor Hall and a draft pick?
We can dream, can't we?

As a Leafs fan, I don't make that trade.

Eakins has done a gr8 job with young talent with Marlies. Perfect fit for an evolving team in edm. Wont be official today, but is done.

to confirm, while Craig MacTavish would not offer a name I can confirm it will be Dallas Eakins.

I'm not sure I would either unless its Edmonton's 1st round pick (#7 overall), but it WOULD open up a ton of cap room to sign maybe Weiss and Clarkson.
I also think that Nashville will put Shea Weber on the market at the end of July and Leafs are one of the few teams that can afford him.

I have a bad feeling Eakins will make the Oilers a contender in the very near future

How many great assets are going to leave the Leafs organization and lead other teams to success?

There aren't enough drugs in the world for MacTavish to make that trade.

I dunno, maybe he took one too many knocks to the head while not wearing a helmet in his playing days? That might be enough.

Eakins proved to be a great AHL coach and I hope he does well. But i just dont get why some of you think the sky is falling. Randy Carlyle is a good NHL coach, he won the stanley cup and took this leafs team to the playoffs. Just be happy with that fact.

Will eakins have success in EDM??? likely, that team has had a top 5 pick for what seems like 5 years, this is the time in their evolution where they would 'naturally' take the next step. Most of you guys will think Eakins is solely responsible, but a maturing roster is likely the main reason.

Wouldn't hate that. IIRC, Edmonton was interested in Scrivens from his Cornell days.

I wanted to ask those in the know, did Eakins have any favorites down on the Marlies that we might see as trade bait?

Honestly, i'm not even mad. Who do you think is here if/when Carlyle falters?

This is a proving ground for Dallas. He IS NOT the only coach who knows how to develop players. It's far from the end of the world.

In other news, though, Edmonton just joined St. Louis, San Jose, and Calgary, for tems I like/watch in the west

It was funny, Spector I believe it was saying, much from Toronto is overrated, but Eakins might be the real deal.

Eakins by the way, was drafted by Washington, and played 18 games for the Leafs, and 120 games altogether in the NHL.

I doubt Eakins feels any more loyalty to the Leafs than he does any other NHL franchise.

Eakins, played quite a few games for John Anderson, who was a very successful minor league coach, and stand-out Leafs player for a number of seasons.

Anderson is now assistant in Phoenix, but had a couple seasons in Atlanta, where he lost his job, when Ronnie Wilson was keeping his doing worse in Toronto. Guess standards were held higher in Atlanta, or he wasn't best buds with the GM!

Let's hope Eakins gets the Wilson treatment in Edmonton, rather than the Anderson treatment in Atlanta.

Can anyone tell me how many championships Eakins has coached a team to? ;-)

Eakins is a great coach but there's a reason why Burke went with Carlyle cause his past success gave little ammunition for the media to rip him if things don't get better in a hurry. I just hope Edmonton employs the philosophy Burke did with his coach and gets rid of the players who don't follow suit even if it's there overrated top young guys instead of the coach. Those guys need to be held accountable and taken off the pedestal if they're ever going to become a winning team but I fear the media will not sit kind watching there beloved Hall, Eberle, Yakopov, Hopkins being benched do to there lack of commitment playing defense and staying discipline to the scheme of the team game. All 4 of those guys like to freelance way too much, like with Kadri Eakins is going to be all over them.

Eakins is a lot like Tottarela folks this might not be a perfect fit as one would 1st think cause it's there top guys that are in for a rude awakening that Edmonton have been selling them as the next great core since there glory days with out earning a damn thing.

Good luck Eakins look forward to you setting that Edmonton hype strait

I'm more upset because I think Eakins will turn the Oilers into a good team, but that will build fans opinions on tanking like it's a good idea

Good luck to Eakins in Edmonton.

I think that it will be a great opportunity for him and he deserves every bit of it. Its too bad that he didn't get a chance with the Buds. But you can't really complain with Carlyle's results.

I wished Dallas good luck on twitter when the Marlies were eliminated weeks ago, not surprised he will be coaching in the NHL next season. That was how sure I was he had coached his last AHL game.

So how many Ex Marlies can we expect in an Edmonton lineup next year?

Gardiner to start?
