I get the like on Stalberg, big, fast and the skill set to do 17-20 goals. But what we lack is not just size, but physical play. If you put Stalberg on with Patches and DD I really don't see anything special. Put on a big guy who is physical and will tough it out in the tough areas like the front of the net and I could see synergies there that make the whole line better than the individual players, could at least be able to cycle the puck better. Guy like Bickell, though that dude has likely priced himself into overpayment plus 50% given his play-offs.

Iggy? Hmmm....4.0M? He could fill a need...

What about cap space for next season? Where are we?

I think zero percent chance of Iggy. He's looking at his legacy now, and that means he's pursuing a Cup.

This is Eklund, but if MB actually did go after Doan last year then don't see why he wouldn't go after Iggy.

Exactly and even though we are not there yet, getting a player like iggy would be a great addition and a big move proving that we want to be there. He could easily replace ryder as well, and give us some room to trade for a top 4 defender. Let the pieces fall where they will but this wouldn't be the worst thing.

Mtl - nyi

NYI is shopping DiPietro's contract. The Buyout is 22.5 millions.

What deal would Molson accept in return for DiPietro's contract, which obviously would be our 2nd and last amnesty buyout?

Would Kaberle be part of the deal ? Strome? Matt Martin ?

Molson isnt throwing away $22.5M for Matt Martin, even with Kabs ( $4.5M , loss only $18.0M ) part of it.

I have no doubt that Bergevin will not do this, it's pure armchair GMing. But if all Myers needs is a change of scenery to bounce back to his rookie season form then it would absolutely be worth it. Our D would be the envy of the league. It's a risk because if he continues to struggle we've overpayed big time but we can afford to take that risk.

well toronto paid 10 m for connolly and komosarek to play in the minor last year. we would only be paying 1.5 m for x number of years. so if you spread kaberle and moen salary over the years It would be 7 or 8 years from now before you actually saw a lost and by then 1.5 m won t look like a big amount in the big picture of it all.

MB was pursuing Doan to sign with Chicago last year?

I have season tickets in Calgary and Iggy is not what this team needs. stay with younger, bigger, faster guys.

Oh you think so ? ... Of course, I was pointing out players that could be valuable, as part of a package.

I wonder if Bobby Ryan is going to become available. I have a feeling he is with all the money they shelled out and the emergence of some of their young players.

He would fit well on the top line in MTL.

So, you think Bergevin is going to walk into Molson's office and propose that they basically cut their operating income for the year in half and give out 24 Million ( you say 22.5 million) for some package of picks or players?

Then you expect Molson to take that request to his family and 6 other ownership partners and tell them that he wants them to take a 24Million dollar haircut on their investment for something that has no ROI and may or may now pan out.

Uh huh, I see.

If the player is Tavares, perhaps the door doesn't slam in Bergevin's face otherwise he's just proposed the most stupid idea in the history of ideas and it's a matter of time before he gets fired.

Moving Dipietro will not happen.

Why would the Islanders trade him away if it means getting a crappy player in return or moving valuable assets with him?
Makes no sense at all for them to move him along with Martin or Strome just so they can get rid of this contract. Might as well just keep paying him and retain your assets.

i think the only way bergevin makes moves is through trades. it will be interesting to see what he does. sure he wants bickell so does 29 other teams. he will stay the course and keep drafting. he'll need to replace some offense in ryder and an injured gionta and we need some size to replace emelin until he's back.

Kaberle

vs

1st, A class prospect (Nino or Strome for exemple) and Dipietro.

At least that would be a start.

Huh? Bergevin was our GM last summer... There were tons of rumours stating that he was very interested in signing Doan.

No matter how much people on the internet think these owners have endless money supplies this ownership group is not going to burn 24M for one draft pick or player. It would be a bad business decision.
