Ryane Clowe

Where does he sign? Does his concussion history factor into a team's decision to sign him? What money does he go for?

All assuming he hits the market come July 5.

Wasn't there are rumor about him wanting a 8-year deal around $5 million per. So, if those rumors have any validity, then he will go to a team with an insane gm.

I think Sather will re-sign him.

I hope so, anyway.

What he's worth? Nine million; three years
What he'll get? Twenty five million; five years.

Apparently he had 3 concussions this season.
From Larry Brooks:
Quote:
The cost of re-upping Clowe, the 30-year-old winger who is believed to have sustained a pair of concussions in a matter of 16 days bridging the season and the playoffs (and is suspected to have suffered an earlier concussion while with San Jose before coming to the Blueshirts prior to the deadline), will be more than the dollars on the contract.

For if the Rangers re-sign Clowe, the big-bodied winger who had trouble keeping up with the pace before going down in Game 47 at Carolina, the club will be obligated to send a second-round pick to the Sharks in 2014 (instead of a No. 5) in addition to the second and third in 2013 already sent San Jose’s way.

Way too costly, by any measure.

I don't recall any concussion speculation when he was here with the Sharks before we traded him. He had a shoulder injury, IIRC, but none of the media here mentioned anything about a concussion, at least not that I remember seeing. On what basis are they speculating about that one while he was here?

If I'm Montreal I would offer him 3 years at 13M

This is spot on. Some GM wanting size will overpay him and regret the decision the rest of his employment. Which is more moves like this are made wont be long.
Hopefully he doesn't even get a call from Vancouver. Guy is slower than any forward I've seen and hasn't been very productive lately. He's old and looking to cash in.

He won't get what he wants

As a Rangers fan,I let him walk,unless...... If He takes 3.0 for 2-3 yrs then i would be game, all assuming he is healthy. But that's all I would offer and what a waste of 2 2 nd rounders. ****ing joke him getting a concussion

Yeah, really sucks him getting a concussion right before the playoffs for you guys. I was obviously rooting for him to do really well for you. I would be willing to bet, though, that the 2 concussions were really just 1, and the "2nd" was just him not actually being over the first yet, and he tried to come back too soon and aggravated the issue.

That really sucks for NY, the game seemed to find his mojo back when he first went to NY.Ah well... This guy is good, but I'm not sure he's worth 5M/year that he wants. Same with Clarkson wanting north of 5M.

I really can't see Sather letting go of him. But if he does, Clowe should sign and play well elsewhere. Hopefully he takes a 1yr deal and then gets more money later

I hope the Rangers resign Clowe. 9M/3yrs would be his best bet, but of course he wants more.

Someone will give him more. Let them.

I like the idea of him on the team and I like what I saw, ever so briefly, but more than $3M for what he's displayed with his injury risk... not worth it. Especially if we factor in giving another 2nd over what's already gone.

I think he is exactly who the Oilers should be targeting. 5 years at 5 mil or 6 at 4.5. They need a player like this so badly, its worth the risk to get him.

Hall - Gagner - Yakupov
Clowe - RNH - Eberle

What would you give up for Clowe signed at 5years/4M?

Well seeing as he is about to become a UFA, would rather just wait. I could see giving up a conditional 5th or 6th for negotiating rights.

His first priority is to sign in NY at a discount (said something to that effect during breakup day). Let's assume Sather signs him to the above terms, what would you give up for him?

If he signs with New York i think it would be awkward for them to trade him immediately. Value wise, maybe something around Paajarvi and picks.

I can see Sather letting him go. Not that I would be complaining if Sather did re-sign him (of course) but he's not stupid enough to pay a 2nd rounder AND $5 million AAV for Clowe.

Weak free agent crop typically results in decent players getting paid way too much with too many years. I wouldn't be at all surprised if Clowe gets a 5 year deal at an AAV of around 5 million.
