There's a whole lot of noise coming from Leafs fans about "Ranger staying in Toronto, period", and nobody providing sources for that info.

Signed with the Marlies to play close to home.
Seems to make the most sense right now.

So it's all conjecture, then.

I hope he does sign in Edmonton. He'd fit in their system very well. As a hockey fan, I'm excited for E-town's potential! And as much as I'd like to see him in a Leaf jersey, he'd be eaten alive by our media.

If he decided he wants to play pro and Liked Eakins alot and sees the opportunity i dont think its far fetched to beleive he might go to Edmonton? Just cause he played for the Marlies doesnt mean he is guaranteed to play for the Leafs if he decides to go pro.

Not saying he will for sure sign with the Oil either. but dont act like he has to stay in TO
His family and friends live in the GTA, so unless if hes moving them to Edmonton cant see this happening

Because no one has moved away from their family for work ever. It's literally never happened.

Well when you consider Ranger's situation and the rumours of him wanting to be closer to his family and home by signing with the marlies. It sure seems unlikely that all the sudden he'll change his mind and want to go play on the other side of Canada for the Oilers.

The only thing Dreger is reporting is that the Oilers have interest in Ranger. When ultimately it's going to come down to his decision. If he's in the NHL next season TO is obviously the frontrunner. Don't know why that seems so ridiculous.

The Leafs have a good, young team just like the Oilers. He'd be offered top 4 minutes on both teams, including PP time. He'll be given just as good of a salary offer in Toronto as he would in Edmonton.

Edmonton has Eakins, but the Leafs organization has basically been incredible in how well they've accomidated Ranger. Ranger wanted a one-year AHL deal, after coming out of hiatus; the Leafs gave it to him. Ranger didn't want to play in the NHL this year; despite being an upgrade on the Leafs blueline, the Leafs didn't push him.

One of the theories about why Ranger left in the first place has to do with him wanting to be close to both home and his significant other (GTA resident). I think this was part of why he originally signed with the Leafs in the first place. Edmonton is pretty far away, and is not even in the same conference as the Leafs.

When it comes down to it, it really makes sense for Ranger to sign with the Leafs if he wants to make the jump to the NHL. It makes almost zero sense for him to join Edmonton. Sorry Oilers fans.

If he winds up playing in the NHL it'll likely be in Toronto, where he can be close to his family, not wherever Eakins is coaching. Thats why I'm so surprised Dreger is speculating away at the Eakins connection when Toronto fans know the City of Toronto connection is stronger. Oh well, its good for hits, I suppose.
Im not debating that Toronto is a strong possibility and the most likely destination, but some TO fans are talking like there is a 0% chance he would go anywhere else which i dont buy at all. we dont no everything about him.
Maybe he does like Eakins that much?
Maybe his ties to Toronto are being overblown?
I dont no just saying that i doubt that Toronto is his automatic destination

Even if he had a good "home" situation in Edmonton the very long road trips that Western teams have as part of their schedules compared to Eastern conference teams would have to be part of the consideration.

I think Toronto is definitely on a short list of teams that have an edge on Ranger, I don't think that's ridiculous at all.

... What I DO find ridiculous is the attitude of some Leafs fans here that the mere IDEA of Ranger playing anywhere but Toronto is "nonsense":

That would piss me off if he left, he took valuable minutes from our up and comers just so he could get better to play for another team? That's low.

MacT's offseason plans..

1. Fire Krueger, steal Marlies coach
2. Trade for Gardiner
3. Offer sheet Kadri to a ridiculous deal
4. Lure Ranger away from the Marlies
5. Call Burke and personally thank him for all of these pieces

Hahaha, all your players belong to us

Just don't see him playing for the Oilers but I may be wrong. They were horrible defensively last year and being thrown into that fire is probably not something he would want to do.

My bet. Leafs maybe, other than that I see a team with strong veteran leadership and a good back end where he doesn't have to be 'the guy' is where he ends up.

How is that low? It's called a veteran presence. And if the up and comers can't take icetime away from a guy who hasn't played in years, they probably don't deserve it. I still think he signs in TO, but if he wants to play, Edmonton is definitely the better option

Dammit, this would be a GREAT pickup for the oilers, and a huge missed opportunity for the Leafs.

Ranger is an excellent two-way dman, exactly what both teams need, and should come at a very affordable price.

as a leafs' fan, I'd be really upset if we lost Ranger to the Oilers.

So is Ranger going to Edmonton because of Eakins.

Toronto just makes the most sense IF he were to return to the NHL
