Great deal for the preds. I'm shocked he'd sign for that term. I was expecting a bridge deal.

Good deal for the Preds, but he just turned 23 a week and change ago. For those confused why Josi would do this he is going to get another big pay day. The younger guys are going to see three or four contracts now, instead of just one and an extension, or the bridge then extension.

I don't think he's worth $4m *right now*, but if he continues to develop, it will be a good deal.

Great deal. Locking up your core at a premium sucks but you gotta do it. Locking up your core at fair value is excellent. Locking up your core at a discount is absurdly awesome.

Your calendar must be stuck on 2011 still. Try flipping it over and checking out Franson and what he did this year.

Anyway the deal is a steal for Nashville. Josi might not be happy with his agent by year 3 or 4 of this deal...

My god, do you Sens fans have to bring up Karlsson in every thread about a young defender?

The guy clearly meant he's the best defender he's seen come through the Preds since Weber.

Great news for Preds fans. Hope the Jets can get Bogo locked down for 7 as well.

No, I get it, I just mean from a cap-hit perspective, although I guess that doesn't really matter for Nashville, since they're nowhere near the cap ceiling.

Not at 4 mill per though. Bogo and Shattenkirks agent are loving this deal, as both are quite a bit better than Josi imo.

Bogosian maybe, but I'd take Josi over Shattenkirk.

Solid move by the Preds. No chance of him playing the UFA card all the way down to the river. It really was a shame they got nothing for Suter leaving, this at least helps make up for it.

I'm not trying to slight Franson...they're just different caliber defensemen. It would be like saying, "Franson is a better defenseman than Morgan Rielly" if he outscores him next season.

That's a nice contract for Josi. Personally I think it's 3-4 years too long as I expect him to be better than a $4 mil/year player in 1-2 years. He still could have signed that 7 year contract with 26/7/8. But if it feels right to him so be it. Nashville will definitely take it.

For those who didn't notice: Josi played a good season in Nashvilles first pairing and was named MVP of this years World Championship. Even if it's not NHL related it shows what he is already capable of. He had 9 points in 10 games. He's a gem.

Poile is probably afraid of potential offer sheets now after the amount of cash Nashville had to pay Weber upfront for last year's shortened season. Josi is obviously a top young blueliner but the length is a bit eye-opening, yet is probably good for the Predators long-term.

Everyone saying that Josi will regret it in 3-4 years... maybe he's just humble enough to realize that he'll be making $5M in those seasons. He'll make more than enough to take care of himself and his family for the rest of their lives... and still leave enough room for the franchise to add other decent contracts to stay competitive and make a few championship runs.

Not every player is a money hungry idiot, despite what we saw from the mouthpieces during the lockout.

Roman Josi is the Anti-$uter!

Wow, this is great news for our franchise. Just need one more top 4 defender and we're set.
