Good deal for the Preds, but he just turned 23 a week and change ago. For those confused why Josi would do this he is going to get another big pay day. The younger guys are going to see three or four contracts now, instead of just one and an extension, or the bridge then extension.
That's a nice contract for Josi. Personally I think it's 3-4 years too long as I expect him to be better than a $4 mil/year player in 1-2 years. He still could have signed that 7 year contract with 26/7/8. But if it feels right to him so be it. Nashville will definitely take it.
For those who didn't notice: Josi played a good season in Nashvilles first pairing and was named MVP of this years World Championship. Even if it's not NHL related it shows what he is already capable of. He had 9 points in 10 games. He's a gem.
Poile is probably afraid of potential offer sheets now after the amount of cash Nashville had to pay Weber upfront for last year's shortened season. Josi is obviously a top young blueliner but the length is a bit eye-opening, yet is probably good for the Predators long-term.
Everyone saying that Josi will regret it in 3-4 years... maybe he's just humble enough to realize that he'll be making $5M in those seasons. He'll make more than enough to take care of himself and his family for the rest of their lives... and still leave enough room for the franchise to add other decent contracts to stay competitive and make a few championship runs.
Not every player is a money hungry idiot, despite what we saw from the mouthpieces during the lockout.
