Surprised Josi would sign this, IMO he will be worth much more than 4 per in a few years. Great signing by the Preds.

7 years for a non star player is a bit silly, he could get seriously injured next year and the next 6 years will be him trying to get back on track, it's happened before.

And this is why I hate being a small market team sometimes. But oh well.

The biggest part of this deal, in my opinion, is that it's showing Josi wants to be here, long-term, with no drama. After the Suter departure, the Weber offer sheet debacle, and Erat's trade request...this is big.

And now we build around Weber, Josi, Rinne, Forsberg, and Barkov. I like the start.

So, the aforementioned "star player" couldn't get hurt and make it look bad for the team? Star power baby!!!

What a stupid argument to make.

Awesome deal for Nashville IMO. I was very impressed with him with the Predators games I watched this year. He is going to be worth more than this soon enough.

A star player is worth that risk, did I really need to explain?

Came here to say great deal. Remembered we're now division rivals. **** I hate this deal.

And for the TML Franson comparison guy, hahaha, no. But I really like ow this deal might keep Bogo closer to $5 mil long term instead of getting too ridiculously high.

A "star player" signs for 4m? And I'd say Josi is a STAR PLAYER for NSH going forward. He will be worth much more than his salary in a few years.

And a top pairing defender isn't worth the risk?

Certainly not one that hasn't proven himself offensively. The risk of injury is significant, with the salary cap going near 60 million and below within the next two years it's a risk that I wouldn't take, but then Nashville likes their dmen.

He doesn't have to prove himself offensively, though he will most definitely get better at that aspect as he gets more experienced, he's a defenseman. But then Edmonton likes their forwards.

1. DEFENSEMAN, doesn't imply instantly that they have to pot 50 points a season. Exactly what's wrong in the Norris voting these days.
2. NSH has no cap issues whatsoever.

Any other excuses?

That is sort of what I'm saying. I wouldn't give that term to a defensive defenseman, it's not like its just jerks like me who would say that, Ken Holland is staunchly against giving defensive dmen big deals.

He'd give a building block a long-term deal instantly, if he had one like Josi.

This is the exact same scenario I hope the Rangers do with Mcdonagh.

Maybe the same salary, not seven years. It's not the worst deal in the world it's just a really long term deal for a player who hasn't produced offensively.

lol, now Josi is a defensive defenseman? He's a 2 way defender with a very high offensive potential.

Try watching a player before you make statements like this....

Just curious, how many games have you actually seen Josi play in?

He was the best player on the Predators last year, except for Rinne and MAYBE Weber. Yes, he was better than Weber in quite a few games.

A $4 million dollar player is worth a 7 year commitment now?

Except he's not really a defensive defenseman. He's got great offensive instincts and he'll get to put them to use as he gains experience on the top pairing. He did have a 4 point night this year. You can't expect a sophomore defenseman to put up big points right away when he's getting 20-26 minutes a night in the NHL for the first time.

I mean, Johnny Boychuk makes similar money to play top pairing with Chara, but I'd be hesitant if Chiarelli suddenly signed him for more than a couple years.

edit: Yes I know he is younger. The point is just more that, a star player is the one that warrants long term contracts. A $4 million dollar player is not a star player... and a star player, or someone who expects to be one, doesn't sign for 7 years at just $4 million.

In my opinion.

Still a good signing, since $4million isn't a lot and if he suddenly took a turn for the worse it is a moveable salary.

Yea, Josi just turned 23. Boychuk is 29. Clearly the same thing. Also I dare to say Josi is already better/equal to Boychuk and is still improving. And Bruins are my 2nd favorite team.
