They actually don't want to trade him.

It's not really something to discuss because there's either a lowball offer "because he isn't signed long term so his value is garbage" or every offer posted is shot down "because Malkin isn't worth anything close to that"

I see the Sabres going all in. The owner won't stand around with a rebuild for long.

Penguins, Malkin hope to get long-term contract done soon

Quote:
Keeping Evgeni Malkin is the Penguins' top priority this summer.

General manager Ray Shero will move quickly.

Negotiations between Shero and Malkin's agent, J.P. Barry, will begin this week ó and both parties are interested in working on a deal in short order.
Quote:
Malkin reiterated Sunday that he wants to sign a long-term contract only with the Penguins. He also wants to leave the club with salary-cap space to maintain a Stanley Cup-contending roster.
Doesn't seem like they're considering it.

The Peguins need a goalie. Malkin should return a really good one close to Crosby's age. Schneider for Malkin and MAF.

It won't be for futures. Pens are in a win now mode. Part of the package will include a 1st or a prospect or two. But the bulk of it will be NHL players.

Think 2 good players (eg, Benn & Eriksson) will be the starting point. Then add. 1 player must be a center (to replace Malkin). The other likely need to be a winger - as we have a shortage of those. Yes this eliminates a bunch of teams, but so be it. If the Pens were to trade him, they have no reason not to be very picky about the return.

And in no way am I trading Malkin to Vancouver for Schneider. Not even close.

Nope. If Malkin is traded, it must be for a younger (proven) goalie, who is signed to a fair cap-hit and a decent term.

I've always thought St Louis made sense

West coast team

They have a lot of great young talent but could consolidate some of it in to that one piece to take the next step

Also at the right time in their cap situation of having to resign RFAs to really structure the future of the team

create a package from:

Oshie
Perron
Berglund
Steen
Schwartz
Jaskin
Stewart
Berglund
Rattie

Cole
Shattenkirk

Allen

Left out Pieterangelo cause he's basically their franchise D man you'd want with Malkin
Tarsenko Russian connection and top line winger to go with Malkin
Backes cause he's the captain

A deal I proposed was a signed Malkin for:

Eriksson
Campbell
2 of Faska/Richie/Chiasson/Guptill
Morrow/Oleksiak
1st this year (10th overall)

And Stars fans said they would do that. That's literally 5 top prospects and a 1st line winger for Malkin. Unless you make offers similar in value to that, don't make the offer.

I just don't think, even if the two sides could agree on a deal, that Malkin would waive his NMC to come to STL.

Hitchcock's style of play.
Financial situation still not solid
which means the Blues don't typically open the purse to pay top flight players
History of mediocrity (coming from a life-long sufferer)

That being said, even if Pitt was trading him, and he would waive the NMC to come here, I don't think Armstrong would give up what Pitt would want for him.

it would be nice to have an all purpose malkin trade thread. when he signs his extension with the penguins, i will only have to bump one.

No they want to trade him, it's obvious.

For a signed Malkin? Add more. I'm thinking:

Grigorenko
Armia
Hackett
Myers
8th overall pick
Hodgson
16th overall pick

Maybe add a little more. You have to pay to convince Shero to move Malkin, not pay fair value.

Benn AND Eriksson won't be a part of the deal. It's one and then add a lot. No way both are traded.

^^Why would they trade him for any less? You aren't paying fair value to get Malkin, you are paying to convince Shero to move Malkin. As Pens fans have said thousands of times in these forums, THE PENS HAVE NO REASON TO TRADE MALKIN. So why would they trade him for anything less than an overpayment? If you want Malkin, either your young core or your prospect pool will get destroyed.

That was to Zetterberg4Captain
