Habs - Tampa (Lecavalier buyout)

The DiPietro talk got me thinking; why not eat a big buyout for assets (for the "have" teams)...so why not:

To Tampa Bay Lightning:

Kaberle + 2013 #25 pick + Desharnais (replacement centre...or they could take our 2013 #55...or LeBlanc...or a combo of...you get the drift )

To Montreal:

Lecavalier + 2013 #3 pick + 2013 #33 pick

Habs take a big hit on the buyout, but gain the ability to draft Barkov.

Gee a Lecavalier to Montreal thread. Haven't seen those before.

Anywho, Lecavalier is well liked and means a lot to the Tampa franchise. He is one of their franchise faces for promotions and outreach in Tampa.

Also, your trade offer is cruddy from a Tampa perspective. Nothing provided is worth the 3rd overall draft pick in the upcoming draft.

You are suggesting quantity. Tampa would like quality (if they even think of moving that pick).

As much as I'd love this, it sure won't happen.

Well gee, I don't really see the incentive for TB to do this. They give up a very effective(although overpaid) player in Lecavalier and the 3rd overall pick(Drouin) for essentially garbage.

Horrible proposal op.

You aren't going to get the #3 overall pick for cash.

That said, has TB said anything about buying out Lecavalier? I didn't realize how bad his contract was for the future...if he retires in 2018, TB will get hit with a $6.5M penalty for two years. If he doesn't retire then, TB will be using $7M+ in cap room for him.

TB trades away their Captain and most likely Drouin for Kaberle and Desharnais?

Not good.

Tampa saves 30 million dollars in buyout cost...that's incentive.

If that is the case Toronto will buy him out for the 3rd overall and they won't have the take on a garbage contract with it. But it won't happen so this point is moot.

And I thought the proposals for Colorado's 1st overall were bad...

Montreal gets 3rd overall and Lecavalier for scraps.

Right now, he probably produces 5million dollars+ of productivity and he easily makes up the rest of his salary putting fans in the seats.

Plus there is that NMC thing

So NO

LMAO Seriously Kaberle and Desharnais alone would'nt get you Tampa Bays 3rd I'm sure theres tons of teams out there that would give Tampa Bay better assets for there 3rd plus get LeCavalier on tops talking about Tampa getting the royal shaft there is no incentive on Yzermans part on this deal Steve Yzerman was trained by one of the best GMs in the league Ken Holland no way in a million years would they even think about this bad of a deal. That's a great big NO on Tampa Bays end.

Got that right, Yzerman was trained by the best GM In the League in Ken Holland. No way is this deal good for the Bolts.

Lecavalier scored only one less point than Plekanec this year, and in 8 fewer games. Had he played the full season he would've likely outscored everybody on the Habs except for Patches and Subban. To me that doesn't scream "buyout material"

Awful for the Habs. Add Stamkos and Montreal considers it.

In the words of Michael Bluth, You gotta lock that down.

This is too far from being the basis for an actual trade.

Let's get real for a moment, Why would LeCavalier accept a trade to Montreal knowing full well that Montreal was going to buy him out and why would Montreal want to eat 2/3 of Vinnys salary over what would be the next 14 to 16 years. Vinny would never accept such a move and Yzerman would never do that to him talking about hurt feelings all around. Vincent LeCavalier, Steven Stamkos and Martin St Louis are the reason why Tampa Bay fills the seats during the season if we get rid of our captain that all changes big time. Sorry but Vinny would never accept a move to Montreal know that he would get boughout and forget about even thinking then that Vinny would ever play for his Hometown Canadians that would never happen.
