I agree with you about buyers being unaware of different seating features.
I have Row 1 Gallery seats and most buyers don't know what a great view they have and nobody is in front of you to block your view. This is a disadvantage when it comes to resale prices.

I'm not counting on anything, it's wait and see mode until a couple weeks into the season. By then people will have a good feel for whatever effect the bridges have on the spectator experience. My sense is that this can only cause the lower row seats to go up in demand because people don't like to be penned in and would rather be among the rest of the arena than in the back of a tunnel. All remains to be seen

Yup, if you've got the cash and go to plenty of games then the Row 1s are very nice seats. But for over 40% less, rows 2 or 3 offer nearly the same view. That's why I'm dumping my Row 1s this month. Most of the time I was lucky to break even on them. Heck, even for popular rivalry games it was hard to get people to spend $20 or $30 over face. But I could get $30 or $40 over face easy on my row 2 seats, and with much less downside.

For me, if it wasn't for that glass I would've renewed and happily pay the premium for row 1.

I think people who don't renew are going to be sorry. We're winning the Cup next year.

Unlikely, but anyone know if the sections at the very top (with view of the bridges) will be labeled as "obstructed" since that will obviously affect resale value.

However, those $50 seats are the best in the house imo.

I doubt it, I was told in an email my seats won't see the scoreboard, but won't lose my view of any of the ice. Don't think they would mark them as obstructed if no one is losing their view of the ice unlike those last few rows in the 400's.

Yep. The last two rows of the blue seats aren't marked as obstructed for the Knicks because you can see the entire court even though you can't see the scoreboard. Same applies for the top of the 200's with the bridges for the Rangers and Knicks.

I spoke with someone I know in the ticket office today and they said that section 223 and sec 224 had 100 percent renewal...I have six tickets in sec 223 and I was curious if anyone knows anyone in those two sections that 100 percent didn't renew...

I happened to speak to my friend who is a supervisor of the reps at MSG yesterday and he told me that the upper bowl had an almost 100% renewal rate. He lurks on HF Boards and finds it comical that over 25% said they were going to cancel. He did say a lot of subscribers had concerns about the view with the bridges but most decided to renew. The lower bowl also had a great renewal rate this season and the waiting list just keeps getting longer. Also the mini-plan for new subscribers only be offered in the lower bowl and if you put yourself on the waiting list in the future and you get called you have to take what is offered as in the past you could request only 400,s 300,s etc. He joked at the whining of some on this board because this is not indicative of the majority of STH,s

At this point, I am year-to-year. I can say that for next season, I am not paying until Lundqvist is re-signed. If he is not, the market for tickets will not be nearly as strong.

I completely DISAGREE about this board NOT being indicative of how the STH feels. I know people who are more annoyed about things than I am, but do not bother to call and complain because they do not feel it will matter.

While almost all STH may feel like board members (upset at rising costs with fewer incentives to subscribe), if the source if simply going by renewal rates, then that message may not be getting through. Like you said, many people are probably frustrated but not calling, and yet buying tickets anyway. Sadly, because of the demand, there isn't much of a reason for MSG to not raise prices, as they assume that if one person doesn't renew, there will be 5 waiting to take his place. Fostering relationships matters way more for teams that won't fill the building night in and night out.

As long as they put out a product that people are willing to pay for, everything is going to work great--this is a period of high demand. And given the NHL's relentless pursuit of parity, the people running this organization will probably be able to get by. Lucky for Dolan there's a salary cap: he's paying less than he did 10 years ago to ice a team that can actually make the playoffs.

But there are a lot of season ticket holders who are less than thrilled. I would be interested to see a breakdown of the length of tenure among season ticket holders to find out the average length of tenure and how it's changed since the lockout in 2004.

You can spin statistics anyway you want. No saying your friend isn't telling the truth, I just wonder how deep the loyality of the fanbase is given all the price increases and the changes to the Garden. A lot of us sat in the same seats, around the same people for years and now that sense of togetherness has been broken. You may not know the name of the guy sitting 4 rows over, but you knew exactly who was bellowing Let's Go Rangers; not sure the new setup is going to produce that feeling.

I get the impression that a lot of people are right at that edge where they may not renew. No preseason games again this year so that saves STH a ton of money on three dead games plus they haven't actually seen the bridges in person. Those two factors in 14-15 could push people out IMO. Plus, who knows what the team will look like and I think the new schedule format may hurt renewal rates too since it's tougher to resell a lot of Western Conference games compared to Eastern Conference games.

Gee, thanks for reminding about the schedule and conference changes for next season--I absolutely hate the changes they made. But, if you want to see Phoenix or the Ducks (not to mention Calgary), there will be plenty of tickets available.

I remember it working like that last season but no assurance it'll work that way this season. I recently upgraded my Jets season tickets : and once I made a selection, that was it.

Speaking of which, has anyone seen the new version of the io-media virtual seating chart yet?

My source told me that was not going to happen this season. Reason is, if you give up your seats for the bridge for any bar-stool seating, and don't like it, you may not be able to move back.

I believe they will open the bar-stools to fulls one season after the renovation is complete.

My source in the know told me that lower uppers were renewed at 94%. No feel for where along the rink the bulk of cancellations were, but I would guess in the corners.

Cheers!
