EDM/PHI 7th + D for Couturier

As per Bob Stauffer of Oilers radio (a team employee, very often floats out ideas just to see how the public would react to various moves before team makes em. Eg Ryan Smyth, coaching change, not doing anything on trade deadline etc) said that there was a potential in edmonton looling at dealing the 7th overall pick and a defenceman (Petry? Nick Schultz?) for Couturier.

What would Philedelphia think? I think personally 7th and Nick Schultz would be a fair deal, would probably want something coming back with Couturier if it was Petry.

I know the value would be way off but the only oilers d men that interest me are Schultz and Smid. And Smid would be pretty redundant on the Flyers.

Dear God please no.

"Let's trade Couturier for the 7th, draft Monahan, and hope he is as good a Couturier"

For Philadelphia it's a lateral move at best. I'm taking Couturier over whoever ends up being available at 7th and the Flyers don't need/want more mid-paring defenseman. AKA no

Stauffer is a credible source still?

Shouldn't Edmonton be looking to add defensemen, not subtract them. Sounds more like speculation than a rumour to me

We talked about it with Yotes fans to a fair amount of receptiveness, I'd much rather trade Coots + our 2nd (41st OA) for Gormley and the 11th OA, that is IF we are dealing Coots at all.

The value's right, but it just doesn't make sense. I'd rather put Couturier towards an actual top defenseman.

The Flyers find a winning lottery ticket in Couturier at 8th overall and decide to move that for another lottery ticket that may not be as good?

Not that I'm complaing, as a Rangers fan.

For Edmonton to trade away any D besides Potter or N. Schultz it would only hurt them.

I would do it as an Edmonton fan if the deal was either Potter or N Schultz + the 7th for him.

And even than I'm not sure if I'd like it, I feel like the 7th packaged with a different small piece can acquire some one better than Couts..

Edmonton has a plethora of D prospects, but it doesn't make sense for PHI in my opinion. Couts is gonna be a stud.

Makes no sense for the flyers to add a mediocre dman and trading couturier for an unproven player who might just end up being as good or worse...maybe better but it's a pointless gamble

If it's Petry I'd pass as an Oilers fan, there's a very good chance we get an impact player at #7 and it's not worth giving up Petry on top of. Just my personal opinion, Couturier is a very nice piece but yeah... too much.

I'd be willing to do like 7th+ Justin Schultz/Smid for Couturier and the 11th.

It's easy to spot who has and hasn't watched Couturier play.

I bet you would. Move down just 4 spots and get to swap Schultz/Smid for Coots, not gonna happen.

Can't say anything about Couturier overly excites me. Rather take my chances with whoever is there at 7 from Nichushkin/Lindholm/Monahan. All are better skaters with better offensive upside. The only benefit really is SC is 2 years further along. Pretty sure the Flyers also want a better Dman. Something based around Yandle would make more sense.

Justin Shultz for Couterier would be decent and to move up is a good deal. it fits philly's needs but not exactly edmonton's.

If I was Oilers and one of Monahan/Lindholm were available at 7th, there is no way I had do this deal.

Monahan has a higher ceiling than Couturier and I have little doubts that he will at least pot 60+ points at the NHL level on consistent basis.

Lindholm is a dynamic player and he is got a good of being a very good 1st liner with the mix of playmaking and complete game to go along with it.

I know proven players are a much more valuable commodity than a potential bluechip prospect but i personally think This would be a mistake from Oilers in my opinion if these two were still on the table and they made this deal, nevermind adding another player to go along with the 7th pick.

Stauffer didn't say this. He said that the Oilers could be moving the 7th and a D for a big C entering his 3rd year. No mention of Petry or Couturier.

To be fair, Couturier is the kind of Forward the Oilers need. That, and this opens up the ability to trade Gagner+ for a Yandle/Boyle/Bufyglien/Kulikov/McBain type
