Jeff Skinner

It's unlikely that we trade him, but considering our apparent interest in Valeri Nichushkin at #5, that likely leaves Skinner (He of a 5.725m Cap Hit) on the 3rd line, as our top two lines would then project to be Tlusty//E. Staal//Semin and Nichushkin//J. Staal//Ruutu

So just curious to see what his value would be to other teams looking for a top 6 sniper? Keeping in mind that if we do trade him, it'll probably only be for a legit top 4 defensive minded defenseman as our top 6 is pretty stacked.

Call me funny but Ruutu to me looks like the odd man out(unless you want to use him as 3rd line center). Given his injury history and caphit he would be the most likely voted off the island.

A typical answer as of late would be Edler. But Skinner does make 75k more than Eddie. We are tight to the cap as is. How are the Canes on cap space? Would you be able to retain any? Or maybe take a cap dump from the Canucks?

JVR?

Would easily slot in instead of Tlusty or Ruutu.

I'd add a small piece, I don't think the value is way off. Would also offer Gardiner and our 1st.

That's a huge leap to in logic to just slot VN in the top 6. The 3rd is a much better place, with better match-ups, for a young guy to mature in the NHL. The natural assumption that Skinner will be on the 3rd line is a bit of a stretch as well, simply tracing back to a late season audition at C.

We are in internal cap trouble.

We have around 5 spots to fill and maybe 6m to fill it.

Skinner for a D would help all of that.

We need a top 4 defensive D, and some bottom 6 grit players.

I thought about this trade the other day. Seems decent value wise as an outsider

Skinner and mcbain for marc staal and Carl hagelin

With the emergence of Stepan and Hagelin I doubt NYR do that.

How about Boyle instead of Hagelin?

I would think long and hard about that trade if I was Jim Rutherford. Boyle is exactly what the canes need in the bottom six.

That seems pretty fair except that NYR doesn't have great center depth to begin with if Richards gets bought out, and trading Boyle would leave them without an NHL calibre bottom six center.

They'd suck it up. Didn't Eric concuss his own brother? It's a part of the game.

I'd do that. Still doesn't help Carolina's cap situation, but at least the money being spent is more balanced between forwards and defense.

Doesn't help the Canes. We need the opposite of Letang: solid defensively, stay-at-home crease clearer.

.
Boyle and McBain contract would balance, we would gain cap space between Skinner and Staal.

2m on a buyout Dman like Komi.

Tlusty / Eric / Semin
Nichushkin / Jordan / Ruutu
Bowman / Boyle / Rask
Blanchard / Nash / Westgarth
???

Joni / Gleason
Faulk / Marc
Jay / Komi
Murphy

That ain't bad.

I don't see how any of that results in Skinner being on the block or at all redundant. Isn't Skinner a LW? And I know Nichushkin can play both wings, but isn't he primarily a RW (despite being a LHS)?

Here's how I would see the depth chart (with players who play multiple positions slotting in each of the positions they play)

LW - Staal, Skinner, Tlusty, Nichushkin
C - Staal, Staal, Ruutu
RW - Semin, Nichushkin, Ruutu

Looking at that, it would seem reasonable that Ruutu would be the guy to drop to the 3rd line at either C or RW

Skinner - Staal - Semin
Tlusty - Staal - Nicuhshkin

Of course, I don't think Carolina will actually take Nichushkin anyway, so it's all moot from my perspective.

I'd do that, and I suspect most Yotes fans would too. Canes fans are another story though.
