Agree Vigneault or Stevens to the Rangers. Stevens, for some reason, interests me.
Me too, but a lot of that might have to do with the fact hes a less predictable choice.

Heres the question - given the personnel, can you see any of those guys being more successful than Torts has been the past 2 seasons?

I cant...

Actually, that's not the question. The question is, given the personnel, can you see any of those guys being more successful than Torts would have been next season?

My answer to that one is yes. And not because any of these guys are better hockey minds than Tortorella is, but simply because I believe Tortorella's tenure here had run it's course.

Sure they can. The roster in these playoffs was completely different than last year's, and yet Tortorella continued to employ the same tactics and systems. He failed at maximizing individual player strengths. He failed to get his coaching staff to employ anything resembling successful tactics on the power play. He continued to shorten the bench while the opposition rolled 4 lines and 3 pairs.

Even if the next coach does everything exactly how Tortorella did it, but improved his power play tactics, the team will have more success.

This roster isn't garbage. There is enough talent on this team to have home ice in the playoffs (under the current format). And they will address some needs this summer.

This is why it is important to get whoever is their guy, hired sooner, rather then later. They need it done before the draft so he can pick his staff, go through the process of hiring them, have the organization on the same page regarding the new philosophy, what roster needs are, etc etc. The draft is where rosters start to form for the next season. The staff needs to be ready to provide their input for their needs during free agency.

Then the coach needs to be in contact with his players to let them know what to expect and what to be prepared for.

A new coaching staff could absolutely have a major impact on the success and/or failure of this roster. A good coach and a good staff will be able to get more out of what they have.

Good, didn't want Bylsma.

If Vigneault is their guy, they need to get him locked in asap.

If the players "quit on him" (a phrase I disagree with), it's because I don't think his message was effective any longer. It's not a criticism. I just consider it a reality of guys with that personality type. At some point, people just start to tune them out. It isn't something limited to pro sports, either.

That could be it. The more I think about it, Stevens had some success as a head coach and then won a Cup as an assistant. And he's still under 50.

Please make an offer to Vigneault. Don't want the Stars locking him up before us.

All of the complaints I've seen about last season, besides the inept powerplay, are just not very rooted in reality. Lets see....

It was a 48 game season, no training camp, a major roster turnover in the summer and another one before the trade deadline. I dont think you'll find any coach willing to overhaul the system of play under those types of conditions.

Quote:

This is quite possibly the most outlandish complaint of all given the personnel. Dorsett - Boyle - Pyatt were the 3rd line in the playoffs. Do I need to get into the horrors that were on the 4th? Why complain about running all the horses, when you simply dont have enough?

Quote:

I agree here, but personally, instead of more upheaval, I wouldve preferred another coach added to the staff for this

Quote:

Its my opinion that its not a championship roster, no matter who the coach is. Tortorella is 1 of 2 coaches to bring his team past the 1st round of the playoffs the past 2 seasons. His firing wasn't results based. If you think the roster is better than how far its gone the past 2 seasons, you are delusional.

Regarding the rest of your post, what indication has this organization given you to suggest theres any sort of master plan in place???

Count me on the Stevens bandwagon. I think he'd do well here. I'm actually more excited about hiring Stevens than any other coaches that have been mentioned so far.

The Rangers are trying to pick a coach. Not a wife. This is not that hard. Its hockey. Vigneault is the only candidate to be interviewed. Torts was fired two weeks ago today. It took the Rangers a few hours to hire Torts. Sather probably reached out to Torts before Renney was fired and he spoke to him. Sather fired Renney and hired Torts the same day. It wasn't a long courtship.

I recon it could have somewhat of an impact that the two teams in the final are coached by two very experienced coaches, who has failed before, as opposed to say both teams being coached by young and fresh coaches from the AHL...

Torts was also an in-season hire. There was more immediacy.

Yeah, all I can say is that I would be suprised. He just has not been impressing in Tampa. I have not seen Tampa under him and thought "they are on to something". Its been the opposite, I've thought "they are backing down way to fast".

He is also a long step away from Torts. Torts was throw the puck out of your end and go after it. Boucher is pass the puck up ice, dump it in and sit back.

On a serious note, it is ridiculos if Dave Tippet is not our coach next season -- if we want him to be our coach.

Completely ridiculos.

Dave Tippet is today coaching a bankrupt budget team in the worst hockey market in NA. We unlimited resources. What's Tippet paid in PHX? 1m? Well give him 7m to get him here, he would be the first ever to turn down that amount of money.

If Slats want Tippet, he should go out and get him.
