Streit is a #5 dman that is a power play specialist. Anything north of 4.5mil a year is going to be a mistake...

Streit is a player the Flyers can use, but isn't he demanding 3 years? I really hope Holmgren doesn't give him that.

He would get quite a bit more than $4M when free agency starts.

Flyers don't have a pp dman.

Worse comes to worse they can dump Meszaros.

If Philly signs Mark Streit, Flyer fans are going to be very happy with the player they get. He is still an outstanding offensive dman. He did not have a great year defensively, but I expect he'll rebound and be a top two-way guy for a few more years.

And, as an Isles fan, I'm very grateful for all he did in NY and believe he will be seriously missed.

If Gonchar got two years and 5 million per, then Streit could get 6million per on a 3 year deal!!!

Doesn't make the contract any better when it's signed. Whichever GM, whether it be Holmgren or someone else, is willing to give him his $5M+ is clearly incompetent, unless it's a cap floor team.

Flyers acquire Streit from the Isles.
I am glad snow got something for Streit's rights.

He's a good guy, been a good captain. Best of luck to Streit

Even if he is only a 3rd pairing PP specialist, the Flyers need puck movers on the back end. We have plenty of guys that can log big minutes (Schenn, Grossmann, Coburn, and Timonen) so if Streit is mostly getting powerplay time it will be a plus.

I've been advocating this. He can be a good stop gap. Gives Flyers time to draft and develop number 1 d man

finally a good move for the Flyers. He's exactly what they need most, and while he's lost a step he's still damn good.

If there was ever was a team to overpay for a defenseman, it's the Flyers.

Thanks for this write-up. I saw a lot of Streit on the Canadiens before he came into his own on the Islanders, where he played through being bounced back and forth between forward and defense. Hopefully the two sides can come to a reasonable agreement.

Fair enough.

He recently came off a 5 yr/$20M contract so his cap-hit was already around $4M.

Should be interesting to see how much he gets considering Gonchar got a pretty penny.

He fits a huge need though. Huge.

We should take this guy's advice.

Being a Rangers fan, he's seen a lot of incompetence when it comes to FA signings.

Streit is a solid stop gap. 3 year deal is fine

Not crazy about giving up draft picks, but I'd give one up for my personal #1 target of the off-season. And especially if we're shying away from Yandle.

Gonchar got 5 million per season. Streit should be in same ballpark, maybe more, because he's younger.

You sure about that?

Timonen finished 7th overall and 3rd on the PP in defenseman scoring and he really gets no respect around here

I think Streit's shortcomings are overblown. You don't come by 50 pt defensemen easily. And you don't call a guy who's always played 23min+ "3rd pairing guy" because he lost a step.

Will this end the silly speculation of Flyers getting Petro/Shatty/Bogo?
