Cap floor team. I also think Gonchar, even at his age, was better than Streit last season.

He might have a good shot, but he makes cute passes to the other pointman and takes slap passes towards the net more than anything. Was gradually getting phased out of minutes and I'm quite happy with this return.

If this means we aren't giving away Brayden or coots, I am satisfied.

Streit and Coburn together makes them both better players on our second pairing.

Also saves us from having to move Schenn or Couturier for anything less than fair market value.

Still need a long term number 1 option, so I'd imagine we'll still see the Flyers sniffing around other options (like RFAs), but at least now there's less pressure to get something done.....assuming he signs.

Gonchar is already 39. I think that's huge difference.

Great get!

I've loved Streit for a long time.. greatly under rated due to a cursed injury plagued career.

Thought Montreal should of re-upped with him to cement their backend with Markov at the time. But talk about 2 of unluckiest great Dmen...

Anyways... he's a little long in the tooth now, but still has solid skillset which will definitely upgrade the Philly D. (can't believe he's already 35! time flies man)

PHI will now negotiate a deal with Streit. Have to believe compliance buyouts are in the works for Bryzgalov and Briere to free up cap space

I'm okay with this. As someone pointed out, I'd rather have Streit on a slightly inflated contract than trade Couturier+ for Yandle. Cap space should be okay. Buyout Bryz and Briere, Pronger goes on LTIR and then get rid of Mez for next to nothing if we absolutely have to.

5 on 5 he's a third pairing D-man. On the PP he's a #1.

I can live with that.
Then sign him longterm, trade him. Sign another FA to a longterm contract, buy that guy out after 1-2 years, offersheet a couple more players who don't play defense, sign Luongo then trade him for Tim Thomas... no safety net playing in Philly on a longterm contract.

Streit, BTW, is a 35+ contract, meaning cap hit counts even if he retires/quits. Likely be looking for long-term deal in $5M/yr range.

I hope it will, along with the silly and baseless assertions that the Flyers are hamstrung by the salary cap.

These posts never get old.

The last two players the Flyers offer-sheeted were Shea Weber and Ryan Kesler. One is a defenseman, the other a Selke-winning forward.

Actually, Harper wasn't going to receive a QO. The fact that he was included in the trade allowed the Flyers to stay under the 50 contract limit.

It's sports. There shouldn't be a safety net.

See : Horcoff. He's been ****. He deserves to get traded or bought out. Oilers brass has no balls.

You should play to the contract you are signed to

Whether or not this is a good trade will depend on whether Holmgren can get him signed to a reasonable contract.
