Yeah obviously it's not nearly as important as if he were a UFA, but it's just one more thing against him. How much interest could there possibly be in a guy who played 6 games last year and doesn't even have a contract for next year?

I think he's going to Europe at this point and the Habs aren't going to put up much of a fight to stop him.

I don't know what you mean by UFA rights but Streit has been traded to the Flyers to give them exclusive negotiating rights between now and July 1. After that he's up for grabs.

And since I didn't see "conditional" anywhere in the story it appears that this price stands whether Flyers sign him or not.
July 5.

Ellerby is terrible. You probably just looked at his size and never watched him play.

And Holly overpayment batman, are you a kings fan?

NO NO NO NO. Richards is too old for my taste and I like Gorges better than Ellerby, who is at best a 6th defenseman. HELL TO THE NO.

LA has a ton of money allocated to a ton of talent on D - I don't see them adding Gorges - I also don't see Montreal in a position to lose him. This trade is really about Richards. Richards for DD, Eller and a 1st is a cleaner proposal. I still don't see it working because LA is in their window, while the Habs should be looking forward.

You want to trade Richards + 13th forward (8:28 TOI/G) and a 7th d-men (14:17 TOI/G)
vs
Three NHL regulars and 2 2nd rounds.

I am not sure I would trade Eller vs Richards one for one now.
Eller still very young, very SCap friendly and might very well score 60+ points.
Richards had 17 ESP while Eller had 25 ESP this season (respectively 26 and 22 in the previous season).

I see you are trying to entice us with tall players but there is no point if they can not be part of our regular line-up.

Are you thinking Brad Richards? Because Mike Richards is only 28.

Richards is actually Plekanec sized. He's also slowed down a fair bit from what he was in Philly. Turns out hyper-aggression can age you.

Retrospectively, despite what people may have thought, Philly was never very big down the middle. The largest was Carter who was a beanpole who maxed out at 200 pounds, basically the same body as Pouliot. Everyone else (Giroux, Richards and Briere) was the same size as Plekanec/Gomez/Koivu or smaller.

regardless, you can't really say that Mike Richards is 'too old' for anything in this league.

I never said that. I said he was too old for my taste. What i should have said was hes too old in relation to Eller which we would be giving away.

I think you could get guys the caliber of Nolan or Ellerby on waivers or with minimal free agent contracts. Not much value to me for them in the proposal. I like Richards a lot. But at his premium salary and some of the wear and tear on him (due to his smaller size and style of play, not his age) I'd consider him a risky venture. I wouldn't actually trade Eller alone for Richards, even though Richards is obviously better... for now. Totally wouldn't consider throwing in all that other stuff (esp. Gorges, but also the 2nds). Terrible, terrible trade for the Habs IMHO. (And I think I always list Richards as my favourite player in the NHL outside of Habs!)

____________

Markov

Harrington/Dumoulin/Maata (tough choice, Harrington is the type of player montreal needs but with Markov leaving we might need to add a better PMD such as Dumoulin/Maata)
2014 1st
2014 2nd (pushing it?)

thoughts on value? pits most likely wont resign letang so this might be a good alternative for them, seeing as markov has 3+ good years left in him and pits is a cup contender. they also have alot of solid dman prospects so the likeliness of getting a good return is very high. i dont see them giving us despres or pouliot

Okay, my suggestion we look at moving Diaz to the Flyers for Grossman has been done in by the Flyers picking up the 35 year old Streit. However, the 1st two moves made were for old UFA PMD guys, so the supply is getting lower. Red Wings want a PMD and sound interested in Yandle, for which they will have to pay up, just wondering about moving Diaz in a deal for the Red Wings 1st, 18th overall. Usually I don't get caught up moving roster players for picks but damn this draft is looking good.

I'd do it but we need to replace Diaz. He was playing 2nd pairing minutes last year, without Emelin to start who do we put out there? Boullion??

Diaz has a lot of value, PMDs are always worth a kings ransom, especially being as young and cheap as Diaz is. This is what I would like going forward

PK - Myers/Tinordi type
Markov/Beaulieu (when ready, no rush) - Emelin
Diaz - A tougher Gorges

We have the right prospects in our system, we just need a UFA stand in to give our guys some time to develop. I like our D, and am probably alone there, we just need to allow them time to develop and not trade them away.
