Minnesota Wild Re-Sign Stephane Veilleux [2 Years/$587,500 AAV/2-way]

Quote:
The Minnesota Wild has re-signed one of its hard-nosed depth players. The club has inked forward Stephane Veilleux to a two-year, two-way contract.

The 31-year-old skated in two playoff contests for Minnesota this season. He notched eight points (3-5=8) and 45 penalty minutes (PIM) in 33 regular season games with the Houston Aeros in the American Hockey League (AHL) this season and added two assists and a plus-3 rating in three playoff games with Houston.
Quote:
He was originally selected by Minnesota in the third-round (No. 93 overall) of the 2001 NHL Entry Draft.

I always remember Veilleux for the summer of 2008. Veilleux wasn't willing to sign for what the Wild were offering him and his agent made some sort of suggestion that there were 29 teams who would take him in a heartbeat. So then-GM Doug Risebrough decided to call his bluff and put Veilleux on waivers right in the middle of July. He cleared, then quietly re-signed with the Wild some time later.

Good move.

He will be a leader in Iowa and if the Wild need more energy, they can recall him anytime.

It seems like there will always be some room for Veilleux in the Wild's organisation...

Still can't believe he made it back to the NHL. He looked so done when he played for Blues (Espoo, not St. Louis) a few years ago.

His mocking of McLeod is still my favorite moment of his.

Will he see playing time for the Wild? Or is this more of a depth AHL signing?

Good for him. Second worst player I've ever seen on the Lightning lol. Never really found a role. Thought he was done for sure when he went to Europe, good on him for scratching back.

He was the quintessential Lemaire guy. Happy to keep him around.

He will hit and that is something the Wild will need from time to time. They still are not a physical team.
