D Erik Johnson

Any chance he's available, especially if the Avalanche take Seth Jones? What would it take for the Rangers to get him?

No chance he's available IMO, even if he hasn't lived up to expectations.

Rick Nash?

Hes not available, even if we draft Jones.

Colorado would not be looking for prospects and picks either so lets squash that right now. Don't see a good fit to be honest...

NYR strength is defense, so they sure as hell are not going to be giving up the high end offensive pieces we'd need in the trade either.

No. He's the only thing we have going for us on d. We cant expect jones to be a number 1 on the right side from day one. It would take a massive overpayment to get him.

Mainly this.

But if there was a deal where we got a good young Top 4 LHD with Top pairing potential I would consider it.

Ideally one day EJ or Jones(If we pick him) can play the left side and together they create a dominant pairing. But if one of them cant play the Left Side, I wouldn't be opposed to trading EJ for someone who can play the Left side.

Not saying I would do either of these trades, but something around MDZ + Kreider + or John Moore++ I would at least think about. Although in saying all of that ideally we would want a Defensive LHD in return.

A prospect doesn't make a team's top pairing defensemen available. Seth Jones is going to have problems if he goes straight into the NHL; problems that will make putting him on the top pairing a disaster.

I'm going to go out there and say he's not untouchable, especially if the Avs draft Jones.

I think Roy would like to see him play a season before he decides if he's part of the core moving forward.

Avs fans overvaluing our players again

Fact of the matter is EJ has had 2 sub par seasons, at this point he's not worth nearly as much as they some of you expect him to be.

I'm not saying I would do either of those deals, like I said in my post. But those are probably the best we could expect for the guy.

He's not Shea Weber.

An equally as good #2 dman, but left-handed, something around Alzer/McDonagh

Alzer/McDonagh - Jones
Hejda - Barrie
Wilson - Eilliott
SOB/Zanon/Hunwick

Call it whatever you want. I'm a fan of ej. He definitely didn't hit his potential but he's still a hell of a dman. In order to get rid of him, I'd want essentially a mirror image of him in return (left side lhd).that makes a trade pretty much pointless.

Regardless of whom we draft, Johnson will not be available. He is far far to valuable to us.

Not, Shea Weber but he is the avs best dman with little to no support from the other 5 on the team. No way he gets traded.

Or maybe it's you seriously undervaluing Erik Johnson. He's not Shea Weber but I expect a heck of a lot more than Del Zotto + Kreider or John Moore + for Johnson, those are awful. Even if Johnson isn't putting up the expected offensive numbers, for the last two years he's been the only defenseman capable of actually playing defense on this team, and is only 24? 25? I think he's going to be an excellent #2 on this team for years to come, in the mold of Brent Seabrook for the Hawks

I don't see him being untouchable, but at the same time I don't see the AVs going out to try trade him for the sake of making a trade either. He is not the type of guy Colorado will trade for 2 or 3 lesser pieces either

The Avs lack of an immediate replacement for him drives his price up higher than his value as a player alone. Pretty much a lefthanded version of him is the only fair value deal the Avs could make.

Avs need Johnson, hes their only legitimate top pairing guy, and hes more like a #2 at that. Price would be inflated due to how badly the Avs need him.
