I think the Bruins have met the type of team that can beat them. The Leafs were a much lesser version, but they had some success and came pretty close.

I read a lot of opinions about how the Bruins took off after the 1st round series, and just found themselves, gelled, and got better, like they had stared death in the face and got scared straight.

Another way of looking at it is that no team after the Leafs challenged them with pressure and skill, until the Blackhawks now. We all believe what we believe, and this is what I believe.

Red Wings = Well Oiled machine. Their AHL farm team is 1 win away from the championships. The list of prospects on that team who I think can be NHLers are:

Landon Ferraro
Gustav Nyqvist
Adam Alqvist
Jokiam Andersson
Riley Sheahan
Tomas Tatar
Tomas Jurco
Dan DeKeyser
Petr Mrazek
Teemu Pulkkinen

Now factor in prospects not on that team, Brendan Smith, Marek Tvrdon (before concussions, was a very good prospect, still is), Iron Hook, Ryan Sproul, Xavier Ouellet, Mattias Backman, Nick Jensen, Andreas Athanasiou and Martin Frk, I think they'll be in good shape for the next little while. Deepest pool in the league IMO, which is remarkable considering their draft status.

Isn't Nik Jensen a Canucks prospect? Apologies if I'm wrong.

The offseason thread is (once again) having the Jamie McBain discussion. I brought up Vantanen, Elliot, and Barrie as possible right handed offensive defensemen that can be had for the right price. I have to imagine Ouelett and Sproul would be in the discussion too.

Niklas Jensen is a Danish C prospect for the Canucks.

Nick Jensen is a defenseman prospect who plays for Cloud State University.

There's an issue with Quebec City. And its the same Issue that caused them to lose their franchise in the first place

While they may love their hockey in Quebec City, is the local economy strong enough to support a major league franchise? It may not be. And they don't have an arena.
False, on two ends...
a) The Colisee is due upgrades contingent upon receiving the team (documentation posted in one of the PHX threads in BoH forum) for both Ice refrigeration and premises cleanup. New arena is also being built and will be up and ready to go by 2015
b) QC team was originally moved because of the weak Canadian dollar. if you look, there were efforts, even after WPG and QC to move Ottawa and Calgary... It never happened due to some failsafes set up in the league (I think the amended the CBA)

Quote:
Kansas City has the arena. They've hosted NHL games in recent years. And they have a history with the league as well. Kansas City Scouts.
KC has no owner that wants an NHL team right now...

Quote:
Seattle is building an arena to house an NHL and NBA franchise. They'll form a natural rivalry with Vancouver. Portlanders will be able to attend games if they want. 173 miles.
Seattle is NOT building an arena right now because Seattle needs an NBA team before ground can be broken for a new arena. Theres also minimal public funding, and the NBA Board of Governors blocked the relocation of the Sacramento Kigns to Seattle. Local sale went through, no team to relocate, no plans to expand = No new arena. Furthermore, there is NO OWNER for an NHL team in Seattle. The league will not own AND operate another team, let alone the same franchise

Quote:
Toronto, the largest city in Canada, can support another franchise. New York can support 3, and its not a traditional hockey market like New England and the north-mid-west Wisconsin, Minnesota, Michigan area. Hamilton, Ontario.
Really? Do you know why the Islanders exist to begin with? They were a reaction addition to stop the WHA from expanding into the New York Area to compete with the Rangers. Since their triumph in the 80's, they've been the laughing stock of the league, bleeding money for years, desperately needing a new arena while political ******* stopped all money, both public and private, for both renovations AND the possibility of a new arena... Now they're moving to Brooklyn, where they will hopefully gain some popularity... Note that this took 20 years to accomplish.

Point is, just because 1 works does not mean 2 will work. Hamilton infringes on territory rights with Buffalo, you bet your butt Toronto will fight tooth and nail to NOT let a team in (why would these owners want to "SPLIT" revenue?)... Too many pieces, it will never fly.

Realign Columbus. Atlantic Division. They're EST anyway.
Columbus should be in the East.

The rest of the cities listed are not possible at this time. Seattle will not happen until another relocation (beyond PHX) or expansion.

Back to head coaches... Still want AV at this point, although Stevens interests me alot. I'd like him to get an interview

Funny how the one position in that Blackhawks roster that was considered their weakness before this season turns out to be their most consistent one in the Playoffs. Crawford should get the Conn Smythe if the Hawks win the cup.

Young players. Saad and Shaw. Young legs. They can skate. Are the Rangers paying attention? Shaw was one of the best players on the ice last night. Go Hawks.

Does the same count for Rask though? If the Bruins win, will he or Krejci win the Conn Smythe trophy?

Whoa, totally missed the Penguins re-signing Malkin, when did that happen? Can't hate the contract for a guy like that but that cap hit plus crosbys going forward, yikes.

Rough calculation based on the supposed 67 mill cap ceiling in 2014-2015, the penguins will have 27% of their cap locked up in 2 players. They are the two best in the world, but still, as the Bruins and Hawks are teaching us, this game is about depth.

Pens should buy out MAF for cap space, and will likely not re-sign Iginla.

i cant see how the pens keep fleury at his cap hit and poor play when they have to resign letang to a contract north of 7m per year and have 18m+ tied up in 2 centers.

Rozsival has looked pretty solid these playoffs for the Hawks. I can't even say I'm mad...

Pens fans unnaturally thrilled... 1 cup since the lockout with the wunderkid twins, one of which they earned. They've been irrelevant for quite some time.

So apparently becoming the second highest player in the league (barely) is a discount

It's going to be interesting how they maneuver around the cap.
