Actually, AK is the one that could nail Lucic and Chara; Emelin tried nailing Lucic but got this injury instead. That's how hard AK hits.

Even if he accepted to sign short-term in the NHL, in this poor UFA market, AK may cost us more than he ever did as a Hab.

I have to step in a bit here, if AK is everything you say he is why hasnt he been signed yet?

Teams are incredibly desperate for a scorer with size.

Last year no one in the NHL wanted him, not even the Habs. End result: he played the whole year for Traktor in the KHL. This July 1st, I believe it is about to change, be it us, the Devils or the Panthers. Or another buzzer-beater team.

Anyone know his numbers?
With Traktor:

GP44-13 goals-8 assists-82 PIM (regular season)
GP23-3 goals-6 assists-10 PIM (playoffs)

Perhaps he didn't adapt well to the big ice... however, the KHL is known to be secretive about the cap hits of players. Very few cap hits are known in the KHL: Sandis Ozolins ($840k with Riga, two years ago), Brock Trotter ($250k with Riga, two years ago, too), Roman Cervenka ($5.1M with SKA St. Petersburg), Evgeni Nabokov ($6M, prior to buyout two years ago by SKA) and Alexander Radulov ($9M range with CSKA Moscow) Other than that we do not know the cap hits of anyone else.

Ryder

I don't think Ryder will be coming back next year with the HABS so I would love to see Montreal trade his rights for a mid level prospect or a draft pick this year. What teams might be interested and what might they give up for his rights.

No teams or very few would be interested because he's going for likely his last contract. He's not taking a discount to try and win a cup with anyone. Very few teams are thinking, man if we only had a soft one-dimensional goal scorer we'd be over the top. He's going to UFA even if you trade for him likely.

why would any team trade for his rights if they know Montreal will not resign him.

To have exclusive negotiating rights between now and beginning of UFA period.

Last two times he's hit UFA he's gone to the highest bidder. Don't think anyone would even bother trying to convince him pre-free agency

I'd bet against there being a market for Ryder's rights. He's good, but his skillset is not unique in this UFA class - Streit's is.

If Dallas gave up a 6th round pick for Gonchar, we would be very lucky to get a 7th for Ryder... in other words, nothing will be happening.

The whole point of trading for a player's rights is because his former team DOESN'T want to sign him.

No harm in shopping his rights. Someone might bite.

Ryder won a cup he is now going to as much cash as he can get. If we know this you can bet GMs do as well. They won't give up a pick or player for that.

MB doesn't have to do anything, everybody knows we aren't looking to sign him so if anybody has interest in his UFA rights, they will call MB.

Do you not even follow the habs to not know Ryder wasn't coming back ?

The only prospect we would get for Ryder would be the team's absolute worst.

It would be sweet to get a 5th round pick. We don't have one.
Unfortunately that is probably an over-payment, even if there is a
market. And I think it only happens once or twice a year that someone
trades for the rights to a UFA.

It's a weak UFA market, I'm sure a lot of teams will be interested. I would be shocked if MB can't get a 4th or 5th rounder out of it.

His value shouldn't be far off Streit's. With the UFA market getting thinner and thinner the last few years we have seen more UFA rights trades. This year should be no exception, we have already seen Gonchar and Streit moved.

Even if we only get a 6th or 7th it's another "plate appearance" for Timmins. Drafting is all like baseball at bats, if you get a good head scout(batter) and give him a lot of plate appearances(picks) he should get you a good amount of prospects(hits).

That's the best metaphor I've seen on this site.

He had 51-46-97 totals in 128 games the last 2 years(prorated 32-29-61) in a league with teams looking for offensive depth and a weak UFA market, expecting a 4th or 5th rounder for his rights is hardly a stretch. Similar to Wisniewski Streit Gonchar etc.
