Subban, Markov, Gorges, Emelin, Diaz, Bouillon, Tinordi, Drewiske, Beaulieu

That makes 9 (8 with Emelin out). Also how are the younger prospect are supose to come to camp with hope they will make the team? They know that they are way to low.

Let's hope Drewiske signed a 2 way deal

Not that this will impede us from making any moves, but I don't really like how we're not even July 1st yet and Bergevin already has the same 7 NHL defensemen we had last year under contract. Did we really need to rush to lock down Bouillon and Drewiske? I hope he doesn't feel like we don't need any upgrades there, because the lack of depth was exposed as soon as Emelin went down.

If young players deserve to be on the team they will beat out Bouillon & Drewiske for a spot, nothing wrong with having too much depth it will keep the veterans more motivated and keep the young guys hungry.

2-way deals only determine salary at the AHL and NHL level. On a 1-way you get paid NHL salary no matter where you play.

Misconception that it makes a difference, roster-wise.

I expect Weber to be moved, plus obviously Kaberle moved/bought out.

Would you rather have Drewiske is the press box as #7th or 8th or a young player?

If you're going to keep Beaulieu he needs to play, not just be a spare part.

Emelin will likely start the year on the shelf, so hopefully we add a veteran stay at home d-man as a #4-5(Fistric? Murray? Scuderi?).

Emelin's injury was huge in our late season downfall...we need a nasty stay at home crease clearing kind of guy to get added....Orpik?

Hopefully it's a two way deal so we dont pay him about 600-700k$ in Hamilton.

Perhaps Bergevin thinks Tinordi is ready to take the next step and feels comfortable with a D-core with Emelin and Tinordi giving it some diversity?

I don't know...you're absolutely right. No need to rush for depth D man. We'll see what happens I guess.

Definitely, but even without those guys, I think there's more to come.

Rather, I hope there's more to come, as hoto pointed out. This better not be it.

Odd to see 2 years given to a 28 year old guy that wasn't even in the top 7 at season's end.

And if anyone brings up Gorges, Gorges was 22 when acquired, not 28. That makes a significant difference in likelihood of improvement.

Yeah, I really don't get that comparison. I guess he's better than Weber though.

Definitely. However, with Tinordi looking like he's close to handling a full-time spot, I doubt we make any significant moves. Signing Drewiske comes off as Bergevin getting some depth for until Emelin comes back because he's expected to miss a few games.

At least our 7th/8th d-men won't be 5"8, it kind of augmente la moyenne.

That D, as it stands will get run over in any 7 game series. Brutal.

I'm not a fan of Boullion, but even though Drewiske makes the habs taller, he doesn't make them tougher. Boullion is a tough cookie for his size.

Think of this logically
1) Subban
2)Markov
3)Gorges
4)Diaz
5)Bouillon
6)Tinordi
7)Davis
8)Nathan
9) Webber
10) Emelin ( should be #4 but is out until november the earliest)

So when emelin comes back
1) Subban
2) Markov
3) Gorges
4)Emelin
5)diaz
6) Bouillon
7)Tinordi
8) Davis
9)Nathan
10) Webber

Webber will be moved, Kabrle is going to be bought out, so that means we have two rookies in our depth chart, Davis was signed to sit in the press box/ play when called upon instead of playing a rookie in the same situation.

Yeah, but that's the same D corps that got absolutely shredded at the end of the year and into the playoffs, so I don't see what the rush is to keep it status quo? Even if you felt that was just a bad stretch for the team and that things would return to normal eventually...you're handcuffing yourself at least a little bit by keeping the same 7 guys under contract.

Kind of surprising at first.

This guy can clear the crease, play a good defensive game (for a bottom-6) and almost never gets penalized (about 1 minor every four games).

So as a 7th or 8th d-men, with all the injuries, he seems an OK option.

As OP pointed out, better him in the press box than our young d-men.

Anyway, somebody must see something in him to sign him for two years.
LA did sign him for thee years before that and asked for a 5th for him near the deadline.
Guess that settles the value of Markov higher than a 5th...
