8+ million is absurd for any player. 9.5 is ridiculous. Are we prepared to spend 9.5 on Lundqvist?

Rangers better start focusing on acquiring highly skilled, cheap, young players on ELCs or second contracts. Stop shipping off high draft picks for garbage like Clowe. Stop trading away first round picks and quality depth for "stars" like Nash.

If you invest that much of your cap in one position, you better be prepared to play kids. Plain and simple. No more codling and being chicken **** to give kids more responsibility.

It's going to have to be a player of that ilk. Young, cheap, about to break out.

Don't want anything to do with Byfuglien.

Well said.

If we're paying more than 7 mil to a player, he'd better make a huge difference for us.

If Lundy wants more than 8.5 mil I'd let him walk away.

How much did we have invested in 3 players earlier this season?

That money needs to be used to fill the lineup and create depth instead.

a 9.5m contract under a 70m cap is like a 6.8m contract in a 50m cap.

How is a contract for a Center comparable to a goalie contract?

Best goalies have always made less than their skater counterparts. Less job openings, less leverage. Every team only needs one, not four.

I am all about keeping Hank I just don't see the correlation here...

Hank isn't getting 9.5

He won't get more than 7.5 per year. The Rangers will make him the highest paid goal in the league, but they don't need to give him a huge raise to do that.

I'd imagine Lundqvist's yearly cap hit will fall between $7.5M to $9.5M next year.

How can Sather, with his history of shoddy roster construction convince Lundqvist that saving $2M yearly on his contract will help this team win? Glen doesnt have much of an argument there.

That's my point. I don't see how any one gives Lundqvist that much.

By the way, nice to see the lockout eliminated ludicrous contracts

they did eliminate it. arguably the best player in the league will make 9.5m instead of the 12m+ that most of the top FA have made in the first few years of their retirement contract.

You think its better if they signed Malkin for 15 years/100M?

The new rules bring true market value a bit more in line with the yearly cap hit. Thats a good thing. Its 3rd and 4th liners that will be getting the shaft.

I think its time to move on from Hank at these numbers, look at all these teams that have success, the goalies cap hits do not hurt the teams from getting talent up front.

I don't want Bickell, I just think you're far too harsh wrt his future in the league. I think he's a 45-55 point player who can forecheck with the best of him in the right situation.
He's been a pro for 7 years.

He's played for the Hawks for the last 3, he was on pace for 39 points this season.

He's never been a 40 point player, yet you think he's good going forward for 45-55 points?

He's had a decent year playing behind the likes of names already mentioned. He's had a solid PO's, marginal players like this have decent PO's every year.

He's 27 today, he's not getting better.

Bryan Bickell is Brian Boyle. Brian Boyle is Brian Bickell

Medicore players

3.5 for Brian/Bryan Bickell/Boyle?

God no.

I like Perron, a natural LW'er that is a righty shooter. Opposite Nash that would be a nice combination for Stepan to work with.

As for the concussions, he missed the first 24 games of the 11-12 season and came back in December and posted 42pts in 57 games to close out that season.

He's also played in all of his teams games this year.

The concussion issue is haunting and concerning no doubt, but I think he could be a solid fit.

He's also got 3 years left on his deal at a very manageable 3.8 per

I have said this time and again as soon as both Getzlaf and Perry signed their deals.

waive buh-bye to the hometown discounts.

While I do not believe Hank gets 9 million, he will be north of 8 million.

I would start looking at the trade market for him. You can get a very good goalie for 5-6 per and still have as legit a shot to win it all.

Having 8 or better tied up in a goalie is crazy regardless of how good that goalie is.

He better steal 2 series every playoffs for that money.

Hank is the backbone of this team. You don't trade him. He practically stole the 1st round this year on top of allowing this team to make the playoffs.

Well said.

When a player plays too well in NY it's time to trade him, cause cap management is all about having money to sign his inferiors, thats the only way to win
