I had seen a post on this but can't trace it.

Wondering who you guys believe we can realistically trade for picks?

I doubt anyone would pay for the rights to negotiate with Ryder.

How about Weber? Moen? Others?

I could see Markov being moved within the year. If not draft day, then at the deadline. Draft day trade:

Markov, our 2nd, our 3rd to Edmonton 7th overall?

Weber might be used in a trade for someone's rights. I can see that

Markov likely won't fetch that kind of return from a team like EDM. They need much more than him to be a Playoff team. But I'd like to see something of that level of a return for Markov.

Is Plekanic still considered a core player for you guys? (Oiler fan here just musing.)

Plekanec is the habs' most complete player and the most hard working one. You don't let go these kind of guys.

I like him a lot but he's only a core player by default - we don't have any better centres at this very moment.

When/if Galchenyuk and Eller reach the next level, Pleks would no longer be as vital to our team. But in terms of trading him, we'd need a centre of his caliber back because we're pretty empty in terms of two-way, responsible centres past Plekanec.

Hopefully (and it's slowly starting to look like it), Eller can become that guy.

Given that the Pens have a cap number of $34.1 million with six players signed for 2014-15: Malkin, Crosby, Neal, Martin, Fleury and Beau Bennett, I wonder how busy they'll be in the off season.

There's definately an opportunity for a team like Montreal to come in and take some salary off Pittsburghs hands. They'll have to dump a LOT of salary this off season.

UFA's:
Douglas
Eaton
Iginla
Dupuis
Kunitz
Morrow
Cooke
Adams

RFA's:
Jeffrey
Kennedy

UFA's next year:
Orpik
Letang
Niskanen
Engelland
Kunitz
Jokinen
Glass

RFA next year:
Depres
Sutter

Things are not looking bright in Pittsburgh over the next 2 years.

Wrong. Ryder would garner interest, provided the team that trades for him has a) Salary Cap to sign him and would agree to 3-4-5 years and b) have a place for him on their team.

Weber: nothing. Moen: almost nothing. Others...only Markov, Subban, Patches, Gionta, Pleks, Diaz, would be tradeable for picks. But i say trade none at the draft. We don't have anyone to replace any of them right now, especially with Emelin out.

Who is supposed to go top 10 in the draft? Meaning 6 through 10.

Also change the proposal to Markov and our first for their first and you got yourselves a more believable deal. In any case, it would all depend on who we get in return at #7 and if Beaulieu could play Marky Mark's role somewhat well next year.

If not, no way Jose Theodore.

Why not philly? I dont know if their top ten, but they need defenders. If we get their pick we can then try to use that to move up

Wrong what? I emitted a doubt, I didn't say it was impossible.

Ryder is said to be wanting a big contract, probably the last one of his career. I'm guessing teams don't want to commit to him for more than 2 years -- I believe he wants 3 or 4 years. I'm not sure what his asking might be.

Top UFA's usually get 6-7-8 or more year deals. Giving Ryder 3-4 years is hardly a big risk for a team. He's what 33 or 34 not 39.

And who do you replace Markov with Diaz ? I sure hope not.

Pleks is the Habs best PK'er, and is the most hard working during the season. His playoff performances have been topped by girls like Hailey Wickenheiser.

Ryder never had a long-term deal. I remember reading that his agent was looking for a 4-year term.

If there is really demand for him, then let's get a pick out of it. I have my doubts it will happen but anything's possible.

I don't have a doubt that 1 out of 30 NHL teams would trade for his rights and sign him to a 3-4 year deal at like 5.5 million. The guy played well for us and has SC PO experience. No brainer.

i'm afraid Bickell will get signed at a ridiculous price because of his playoffs run... he's 27 and never proved anything before this year, and he did that with an incredibly good team around him

He might get a 3.5M+ contract somewhere, there's always that one crazy GM.

Brian Burke would be all over him for his "truculence" and "pugnacity"

Something we can benefit from hopefully. Can we all just take a moment to consider this 2014-2015 d-corps...

Subban (6.5)-Gorges (3.9) (or whomever)
Letang (6.5)-Emelin (3.5)
Beaulieu (ELC)-Tinordi (ELC)

Forget about trading for Letang, just sign him in Free Agency. We'd then be set at defence for the next ~8 years. Imagine that PP, hopefully we get to see it in Sochi.

In no way Plekanec should be considered an untouchable in a league where Gretzky once got moved. You don't actively look to trade him, but you don't just tell everyone he's untouchable, especially considering the player Eller is becoming.

I think you're off base here, I'm reasonably confident no one is giving up assets to jump to the front of the line to sign ryder. He was fine with us and most of the year with dallas, he just isn't a highly coveted player. As close to no chance as they come.
