Sure, he isn't an all-star goalie but there is other problems with the Flyers
He's also a wackadoo. He's the closest thing this league has had since Gilles Gratton. Wouldn't be surprised if he ends up living out his days alone in a castle in Europe.

Only in the context of hockey he is. Hockey players usually have the most tepid, banal, cardboard personalities. Getting paid a ton of loot to play hockey is obviously amazing, but I sometimes wonder how much these guys/kids missed out on growing up.

Must be weird to be hockey for your entire life, then retire in your (hypothetically) mid to late 30's.

I'm sure they'll find something to do with the $10 million they've earned

RIP Pelss, I remember him in brief games in the Memorial Cup. Heart and soul type player in their playoff run.

Winkler was a good role player with size. He was picked right before we picked Kundratek. Horrible news today.

Shame about Pelss too, he was a teammate of St. Croix few years back.

RIP

Julien says Horton is day to day.

Lucky break for Boston. Some dumbass on Twitter (Kevin Dupont, I think), was saying Campbell is more valuable than Horton because he played for a little bit on a broken leg. I love the hyperbole that always follows the Stanley Cup Final.

wow
I'm not surprised, but don't take that as a criticism against Bryz.

Ever since I saw 24/7 last year I got the feeling that the "cool guys" in the Philly locker room found too weird to accept even though he seems like a funny and affable guy. His teammates never seemed to laugh with him, they seemed to laugh at him, and it was especially poignant in the breakfast room scene with Zolnierczyk.

But then again, what can you expect out of a locker room that was defined by Chris Pronger...

Regarding Bryz and the Flyers, I'm picturing annoyed and flustered parents as their child persistently asks them the unanswerable "big questions" about life.

I think you nailed it.

Three teams that I think share similar mentalities are Washington, Philly, and Pittsburgh.

An off kilter, quirky personality is better tolerated when a team is successful. When that is not the case, good luck to a guy like Bryzgalov. The rambo jock mentality will turn on a guy like Bryz eventually when the team is not doing well.
It's not Bryzgalov's fault that he is not really a great goaltender. Anybody who did not know what the Flyers were buying into was asleep, or wilfully blind.

Yep, look at some of the guys in the Philly locker room. Hell, not just the Philly locker room. I really doubt most hockey players evolve in a way where a guy with Bryz's personality is accepted.

Sports is awful when it comes to this. Look at Greinke in the MLB- a guy who doesn't act like a jock gets portrayed as a nutjob by the media.

LOL Oates is still *****ing and moaning about the refs. What an immature grown man...

In a recent interview with CSN Washington:

Quote:
'' I think we played pretty good hockey for six-and a-half games. I don’t think we got the best shake with the referees, especially in New York [in Game 6]. I don’t think the discrepancy of the calls [five power plays for the Rangers, none for the Caps] were fair, but what are you going to do about it, right?"

Torts was definitely right. Everyone and their mothers were whining in that series for the Caps side.

Wow, I don't think I've seen a coach so suitable for a fanbase, but I think we have one right here. Whiny coach for whiny fanbase. Whiny players too, I think it was Eric Fehr who was extremely ******** about the Rangers in post series interview.

My hate for Washington is reaching the Pens/Devils level for sure. Especially after this playoff series.
