Read for Bernier is one of the fairest trades we will see these boards discuss probably. If Bernier does turn out to be the real deal, we are set in goal for many many years. Read, although a very versatile player, most likely will price himself out of Philly next year. I think it's worth the chance to give read for Bernier instead of losing him for nothing.

Bernier is not worth a 1st and 3rd or a 2nd and 3rd.

I honestly rather not trade for him at all but if I was to I rather give up Read for him just because I don't see Read being here much longer.

I value those draft picks more than Read at this point.

Part of what makes Read so great is his low cap hit. Looking at his age, he seems to be earning a sizable pay raise for his decline years.

Bernier's height and the team he plays for scare me.

Many goalies would look good behind the kings . Coming to the flyers would be a diffrent story.

Also not too many goalies in the league that are successful with his height.

Halak, Enroth, Bachmann, Backstrom, Khudobin, Howard, Chris Mason, Nabby and Fasth are 6 feet and under.

Quick looked pretty bad behind the Kings for most of the regular season.

I see what you're saying but using a list mostly comprised of backup's isn't a great way to strengthen your argument.

Halak's job was stolen by Elliot and Allen. Enroth I could see take over for Miller when he's gone. Bachmann is still inexperienced. Backstrom has been doing damn well for most of his career. Khudobin has had limited time, but has done well. Howard has definitely been huge for Destroit. Mason was a starter, not anymore. Nabby I still think, in some ways, was a reason why they got into the playoffs. Fasth has definitely impressed especially for being an unknown in the NHL.

Sorry for the really long post but...

How about something crazy like this.

Buy out Bryz and Briere.

Resign Gus, Hall

Sign Streit 3 years 5.5per, Sign Horton 1 year 6.5, Sign a goalie for no more than 3 million. I used Thomas as an example.

If we got Ryan, that would kind of defeat the purpose of signing Horton. You have to keep in mind we need $$$ to resign Giroux and Schenn next year. Horton has had concussion problems in the past as well.

I also don't think you're getting Ryan without giving up Couturier.

I would only sign Horton on a one year deal. If one year a 6.5-7 mil wouldn't get him then he can go else where.

That may not get Ryan, but just like I dont think we are getting a top pairing defender from anyone, I dont think Anaheim is getting that great #2 center they are looking for. Read could be a nice option for them as a bridge #2 center untill they find that guy. They could use the picks they received from us to move up in the draft to draft that potential #2 center. I think Read plays a game very similar to Patrick Sharp who has played as the number 2 center for Chicago.

If they don't want that trade it is fine with me I am very happy to have Read on this team now and hopefully in the future

Top free agents rarely sign one year deals, I don't think Horton will buck the trend this year.

Ryan is proven 30 goal scorer. Couturier is just potential at this point, that's why we're not getting a top defensemen. A second line center is also a lot easier to acquire than a number one defensemen.

Horton isn't a must hav for me. He is more a player i see as a nice fit for 1 year. If he wants a long term deal then the Flyers are not the team for him IMO.

The 4 most important players on a team are your top two defenders and your top two centers. Teams just don't trade those players for nothing. They are the hardest to trade for in the league. And there are no good ones on the UFA market this year. Elias is available but he is 37. There is also Derek Roy, Weiss, Cullen and Handzus but none of those are high quality #2 centers. If my team was desperate for a #2 center and those were my options or matt read I would choose Read every time. That doesn't mean that is how Anaheim sees it but that would be my offer and I think it is a fair trade.

The only other players i can think of off the top of my head that could be available would be Stastny since they have Duchene and O'Reily or Brad Richards especially if he gets bought out. But Richards would probably be in high demand from other teams as well, like St. Louis

Horton and thomas make me sad haha. Otherwise not bad. Would like Bobby Ryan on this team but he doesn't fit a need so I don't want to give up a ton for him. I was lurking around the main boards and here is what I came up with.

Traded Read for Bernier. Reads next contract is likely going to be his only big one in his career and I assume he cashes in. I am okay with a Bernier and Mason tandem. Let the best man win and hopefully build for a long term goalie solution. I traded Mesz + Gervais + Holmstrom for Weber and Diaz (One of the few trades both parties seemed to agree on.) I think it gives us tremendous defensive depth (not even including the Great Dane) Wasn't sure who to add but I had Akeson in there, if you remove him you have about 1.8 million in cap space. I think its a pretty solid start and obviously once the season starts you can remove Prongers 5 million. Pretty similar to your first one except no Nathan Horton :-p

Also Talbot is terrible on the 3rd line 4 out of every 5 games. Just leave him on the 4th line. Talbot isn't a goal scorer or playmaker. He will put up some points but his main attribute is his defensive play (and pk).

If we are going to signa hunch of free agents I hope they are on one year deals. I don't want to tie up too much money with Giroux schenn couturier and read all needing new deals next season. I would also like to give Laughton the third line which I'm not sure lavy will do

Yeah Clowe seems like he'd be a very expensive third line player here. Especially if he wants a longer contract

Torres as a Flyers? LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL

Guy would be suspended before he even took the ice as a Flyer

also, you have to keep Gus in the top 6. HE NEEDS TO PLAY!
