Well that came out of nowhere. I know absolutely nothing about this individual. Any insight anyone?

FYI: He is a 24 year old forward who started slow in his career but was pretty impressive the last few seasons. Suri was really impressive at the WC this year where he scored 8 points.

btw.: He will play the 2013/2014 season with Zug in the Swiss League. The contract with Tampa will start for the season 2014/2015 (775'000$)

I'm not worried about him making the team out of training camp next year -he's everything but dominant in the swiss league though- considering the lack of offense on this Tampa team. Well except the first 2 lines maybe..

Do any of you new Swiss friends have an insight on his style, role, what his game is like? All I can gather is that he had a good World Championship and that he's 6'0" and 24 years old.

He's a small forward with really great speed, definitely a goal scorer more than a playmaker. He has a great wrist shot. I think he'll need to put on a few pounds if he wants to stay in the NHL, and also be more physical, he's a bit too soft I guess.

So like the 80 other forwards in our prospect pool...

Eh, more talent is never a bad thing, I guess. I'm guessing he's a winger and not a center?

i would compare his style to the game of Damien Brunner. But Brunner plays on a higher level.

That DID come out of nowhere. Was expecting some RFA signings before this.

Yeah, bit of a surprise, although it's a 2-way deal that doesn't even start for another year, so as low-risk goes...

That said, I'm still waiting for this to get confirmed anywhere.

Well the player himself confirms it: translated link

Interesting. No real risk here, again, with the 2-way deal. Worst case scenario is that we signed an AHL player out of Switzerland for AHL money.

Yeah he's a winger. Maybe he'll make the swiss team for the olympics and you'll see what he can bring to your team. TBH I don't expect him to be a first or second liner but he could be decent on a third line. I guess he's a 15-20 goals scorer on an 82-game season. But well he won't be in Tampa before next summer so wait and see what he does this season with Zug.

he is for sure a 1+ppg player in the AHL. But I don't think he has the level of a top 6 wing for a nhl team, neither he has the grit and the size for a bottom 6.
But we will see, he is the kind of player that can step it up when it matters (play-off, worlds)

Not sure if this was serious?
If not, I am missing the .

If this was serious, you might look up our number of goals scored this season and the number our AHL team scored

Anyways, nothing to be not happy about. He either goes back and we lost nothing or we got a player for free.

Didn't really follow your season, just know you're at the bottom of the east.. But now that you pointed it out, yeah, you did score some goals haha

GM Yzerman said Suri playing 13-14 in Switzerland, in part, for best chance to play for Swiss Olympic team. "We're comfortable with that."
Quote:
Sounds as if the contract with Suri (1-year, 2-way) could be signed as soon as Friday.

Saw him play in a couple of games at the WC and he looked solid. But still this came out of nowhere.

probably still an influence of Stacy Roest, that I think is some kind of scout for Tampa? The two played together in Rapperswil. I know Roest proposed Brunner to Tampa and then Detroit came. Or something like that...

Lightning agree to terms with Suri

Quote:
Swiss star Retu Suri has agreed to terms with the Lightning on a one-year, two-way contract that won't kick in until the 2014-15 season, Tampa Bay general manager Steve Yzerman said.
Quote:
"He's a good skater and a smart player," Yzerman said. "He's got good skills and good hands and we like him because he's a very responsible player. He's got good size. He's strong. He checks well. For us, he compliments some of the younger prospects we have coming. He's something we can really use."

I think that's a great signing. Low risk for sure. He has progressed in every season so far.

I don't think he's soft. He has a mean strike. At least sometimes.

Sorry for the bad quality, haven't found it in better resolution.

Lightning and player have understanding he will play next season in Switzerland, but Lightning says it now holds his rights for next 3 years

Here's a more accurate summary of Lightning-Suri situation: Player signed 1-yr, 2-way for 2013-14 (NOT 2014-15 as reported in Switzerland).
Quote:
The one thing that did not change from original report was that this transaction was done with eye for the future.

One last thing on Suri and we can move on, the contract apparently has been signed.

Roest e-mailed Holland about Brunner, while still an active player.

I'm a little lost. So the contract is a one-year deal for 13-14, but he won't be playing here next season, so...we're basically just locking in his rights and won't actually pay him this contract?
