DaCosta is not what the Oilers need, a player like Smith, Gryba or Wier is what the Oilers need. I think a deal could be made with the two teams, will be interesting to see what EDM does in the off season. If they unload Horc and Hemsky they will have plenty of cap space.

It's, remarkably, a trade that would benefit both teams. EDM gets their 2/3C, OTT gets their 1/2RW without compromising their depth.

Which is why it won't happen.

Thats my only problem with Hemsky straight up.
How about if we throw in a conditional mid round pick if he walks. If he resigns or is traded, then the pick is waived

I'm fine with Z.Smith for Hemsky. Our centre depth allows us to deal him to shore up a need at the wing in our top 6

Smith + JOB for Hemsky + Conditional 2015 2nd*

*Becomes a 2015 3rd if Hemsky plays 83 or more games for the Sens by the end of the 14/15 season

I like this, I would make this trade.

What do Oiler fans think? do we have a winner?

I'd rather it be a 3rd/4th than a 2nd/3rd. Adding a 2nd is just a little much for my liking

Draft picks << proven players.

I like the trade deal! Fills out a good chunk of our bottom six, which should be almost completely retired in its current iteration.

I don't think Sens would have a problem resigning Hemsky if he is going to have Spezza AS his center after many years having Horcoff. And Hemsky is the loyal type of players Ottawa wanting him would be a plus in his books.

This is creepy... Are two fan bases agreeing on the premise of a trade on the trade board?? Lol!

I like the Z.Smith+JoB for Hemsky + conditional pick idea

Yea never Seen a Sens Oiler proposal so civil, but deal makes sense for both teams imo.

Is there anything special about O'Brien? Looking at his stats he is 45% on the dot, and barely over a hit per game. I would rather he just wasn't in the deal even though Edmonton needs a 3rd and 4th line center.

It would hurt to give up smith, he really is a perfect 4th line guy that can step up when need be. He's defensively responsible, not an offensive liability and plays with an edge.

The Sens get a lot softer with this trade.

Value is fair though

Young, more physical than the statline gives him credit for, has put up good-to-sublime numbers in the AHL and is only 2 years removed from the experience, ability to step up into the 3rd line.

Did I mention infinitely better than Belanger?

For some reason he didn't play for the Sens as the season winded down or into the playoffs. He wasn't injured, wasn't playing poorly . . . . he just went away.

There's something more going on there.

Oh don't get me wrong, its not a dealbreaker for me. I was just curious if a 3rd would be enough

Classless Manked, your HF Trade Proposal Genie is here to tell you:

Ottawa fans don't want to trade any significant pieces for a player who has injury problems and isn't THAT good.

Edmonton fans don't want to give up a proven top 6 player for scraps.

Oilers fan also saying Smith for Hemsky deal seems to make sense, and is obviously making both sides comfortable. If he can be healthy and thrive in a new environment, Ottawa gets the the better player out the deal. Hemsky is redundant in Edmonton now, and we have a much greater need for a guy like Smith in our bottom 6.

It's a deal where you don't have to argue who is getting the better player. It's a deal that has a lot of potential for making both teams better at the same time.
