I'm assuming since it will be considered an Isles "home" game, that they'll where a "darker" jersey. At least, outside of the Buffalo-Pens outdoor game, that's how it's been.
If that's the case, I would just get it as close to the 1972 blue jersey as possible, even if it's very close to the current blue jersey. Although, I'm assuming the nameplates have to be on the back. But the numbers were bigger and thinner...
The stitching of the logo was never the same also, if I recall.
Either that, or I'd go with the later style that we won the Cups with and had up until 95:
The problem with these, and also the problem with what Snow is saying is that, if it's too similar to the current jersey, then there's not a huge incentive to buy one if you already have what they're currently wearing.
I Understand that the team wants to sell more jerseys for more money, but if im paying a lot of money to go see the Islanders at yankee stadium in the winter, I want to see Islander jerseys. To me, that would be the whole point. Looking at the Islander jerseys playing in yankee stadium. Otherwise its just watching some team called the Islanders, on their way to another bad season...
I would be thrilled if the Isles can do something like the Wild and Sabres third jersys. Replace the script "Minnesota" with "Islanders" and have the main color to a similar color on from Buffalo's thirds. Then have orange stripes with a cream white outlining it with hockey lace neck tie.
