Who would the Flyers be taking at 4? I'm not sure they would trade the pick for anything less than a king's ransom, especially if someone unexpected falls.

Nashville would be idiots not to just take Barkov there.

Mez has about zero trade value. I see us parting with him for futures or a 7th rounder.

So glad the Flyers played above .500 hockey(something they struggled with most of the shortened season) when it was basically a foregone conclusion they would not make the playoffs.....

Even if they had just lost that last game against ottawa they would be picking 8th.

8th gets us pretty much any defender we want other than jones.

Now we are going to get the leftovers. So pissed about that still. 8th would be a huge upgrade right now.

There are really no such things as left overs in a draft this deep. I think almost any D-man we get will become a very good player, at least.

If we don't get a defender with the 1st rounder, I'm sure we'll pick one up with the 2nd rounder.

This is how I see it breaking down:

Quote:
1. COL - MacKinnon
2. FLA - Jones
3. TB - Drouin
4. NSH - Barkov
5. CAR/BUF - Nichushkin*
6. CGY - Lindholm
7. EDM - Monahan*
8. BUF/CAR - Nurse*
9. NJ - Shinkaruk
10. DAL - Ristolainen
11. PHI - Pulock
---
41. PHI - Dauphin/Carrier/Duclair/de la Rose
OR

Quote:
1. COL - MacKinnon
2. FLA - Jones
3. TB - Drouin
4. NSH - Barkov
5. CAR/BUF - Nichushkin*
6. CGY - Lindholm
7. EDM - Monahan*
8. BUF/CAR - Nurse*
9. NJ - Shinkaruk
10. DAL - Ristolainen
11. PHI - Zykov/high end forward/Couturier replacement if he's moved
---
41. PHI - Theodore/McCoshen/Bowey/Bigras/Santini/etc.
I'd much prefer Pulock+one of the projected 2nd round QMJHL forwards, but I could see it going either way. The projected 2nd round defenders would all be steals at 41 if they fall, so maybe they go with two defenders? I think Pulock is the perfect pick at 11 if Ristolainen doesn't drop because he has that really high end offensive upside in addition to leadership and high hockey IQ.

Leftover is not a bad term just saying if we had 8 we would be picking out of zadorov, rismus, and nurse.

Now we will only be able to choose from what is left . No way all 3 will be there at 11, and most likely only 1 will be there.

I'd love a defender at 11 and de la Rose at 41. That has been my position since like April. If they do that I will be very happy on June 30/31 (is it two days?).

Who says that's who we'd be picking? At 8th I would not be shocked to see Monahan, Lindholm, Nichushkin or Shinkaruk available and the Flyers taking them. I think if anything falling to 11 gives us a greater chance of picking a defender because the consensus high end forwards will hopefully all be gone in the top-10. Well, not hopefully, but it would work out nicely for those who want a defender if that was the case.

I cant think of any scenario in which monahan and lindolm are available at 8.

I seriously hope Ian McCoshen is still available at #41 but that seems to be wishful thinking at this point.

I could see Monahan somehow slipping to 8, not Lindholm.

Fans getting pissed off at the draft always amuses me. As if anybody can legitimately claim they've watched these players any more than our scouts...

Yup, there's some players I prefer and some I don't at #11 but in the end I trust the FO with this one.

If its one thing I don't question, is the flyers first round drafting.

Problem with getting angry is that no one has a crystal ball. Nothing wrong with being invested in a player who strikes you as someone who would thrive in this organization (such as a Laughton or Kerby Rychel on paper) or someone you like-- but the selection process is riddled with misses. Root for whomever they pick.

The NHL draft is still A LOT of guesswork. Even today, I'm still not sure whether Laughton was the right pick over Maatta and probably won't know that for another 5+ years.

The Flyers have done well in the first round. While all of the players aren't superstars, all have been NHL level contributors within a reasonable timeframe of their selection. That already says a lot.

I am all for it if they trade down to get him. I wanted the Flyers to draft him in the 2nd rd after the top prospect's game but he will definitely be taken in the first now.

Am I crazy for kind of hoping the Flyers draft a forward? D-men in the draft just seem to be a lot harder to project and I would almost rather the Flyers (who have a proven track record with forwards) just keep collecting assets up front then trade them (plus a premium) for a d-man who is further along the development curve.

yeah I see him being drafted pretty high now too. Id love to trade back and get him. get an asset and package that with 41 to move up a few spots to make sure we can get Ian McCoshen.

The Flyers will not be taking Pulock if one of Ristolainen/Zadorov are still on the board at 11.
