So does anybody know his free agency status?

If he isn't currently signed to an NHL affiliated pro contract, can he sign an NHL EL contract right now?

Does he have to wait until the Griffins season is over (and his AHL contract expires)?

Or does he have to wait until July 5th like all other free agents?

At this point you kinda hope they can keep him one way or the other. Not sure how.

Have extreme doubts about that in terms of the NHL. Glendening is already a better defensive forward and pk guy, more important for depth players. He is also 5'11" legitimately and 200 lbs. Conner is a classic top six or bust guy because of his size and he just cannot overcome it when he steps up a level. Glendening in particular has a very strong lower body, long-term he is a more attractive option at the next level and probably is today for the roles both would be asked to play. Conner is also coming off his worst year in a while at the AHL level.

I think he can probably only sign a one year two way because of his age. Could be wrong on that though. Also as much as I like him should they get him I would be surprised if he didn't clear waivers the first time, but he should be ready for a fourth line role after one more year in the AHL. Really who the Glendening signing is probably worst for is Callahan.

We're not exactly thin on the wing, though, either. Pulkinnen, Tvrdon, Jurco, Athanaiso (though it seems he can also play center), Frk, Tatar, Callahan.

I could easily see Glendening getting a Lashoff special, but I just think he's going to have a very hard time establishing himself as a starter over the long term on this team. Maybe we make a deal or two to clear some space, but Glendening's chances of making the Wings says more about the depth of the Wings organization than about Glendening.

Glendening could also be converted to the wing and that would open up more roster possibilities for him.

I think Ferraro is a great candidate to move to wing with his speed, and Glendening could be another good candidate since he's a strong skater as well.

I don't think I said he couldn't, just that he virtually never played center in his 4 years in college, so I didn't expect him to play the position in pro hockey. Glad he's been able to though, increases his value.

Glendening is only in competition with one of those guys, though. You don't want those guys in defensive, grinder-type roles, and that's basically the only role you want Glendening in. But to this point, I think Glendening has soundly outplayed Callahan. Really, the question for the Wings brass becomes something like: do you think there will be a time when it's better to swap out Eaves or Miller for Glendening? and if so, when?

Personally, I don't see Callahan making the NHL right now. So between Ferraro, Sheahan, Andersson, Helm, I don't think we've got an overwhelming amount of 3rd/4th line guys. I think if the Wings management sees NHL grinder/PKer upside in Glendening, they should sign him before somebody else does. Because I think somebody else will.
